[ref 30-40] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - William Read of Weymouth, Mass., married Hester Tomson3 (Mary Cooke, Francis) of Middleborough, Mass. He made his will 26 October 1705, and it was probated, 12 September 1706. The record of probating the will shows that the wife, Hester, also died between those two dates, but it does not show whether she died before or after her husband. The will mentions wife, Hester, "Eldest Son" William Read, sons John Read and Jacob Read, daughters Bathshua Porter, Mercy Whitmarsh, Mary Read, Hester Read, and "my youngest daughter Sarah Read". [ref 93:23-72] Abstract of the will of William Read, made 26 October 1705: "my funeral Exspences being Discharged and all my Lawfull Debts being Duely paid my beloved Wife Hester Read Shall Have the Sole use and Improvement of my Dweling House and Some Land and meddow adJoining bound westerly by the High way and Southerly by the fenc of my Rye lot as the fence standeth att the date of thes presents and Easterly by the damm made to flow Sd meddow and northerly from the norwest Corner of Sd meddow to the high way and my barne and orchard on the west Side of the way being about four acres as it is now fenced in and also the sole use and Improvement of all my movables that I Shall be possest of all my Decease and I Doe Injoyne my Sons William Read and John Read to manage and Improve the Sd lands and meddow for their mother mother[sic] acording to her direction . . . without any other Recompence then they Shall have by what I Shall Give and bequeath unto them by this my will . . . Dureing her naturall life :" To "my Eldest Son william Read the new Dubble House and land adJoyning that I built for him and all my land on the West Side of the way bounded Easterly by the high way Southerly by land belonging to John Shaw Decd his heires westerly by the Townes Common land and notherly by the land of John Richardses Children with all the orchard upland and meddow land Contained in sd bounds . . . and all my meddow lying by the pen River provided always that the barn and orchard about four acres Contained in the Sd bounds . . . shal bee to the use of my wife as before dureing her natturel life :" To "my Son John Read my dwelling house wherin I live on the East Side of the high way and all that my land adjoining and meddo land bounded westerly by the High way northerly by land belonging to the heires of John Richards decd Easterly by hingham Line and Southerly by land of Joseph pool provided alwayes that that part of the land and meddow and also my house Shall bee for the use and Improvment of my wife Dureing her naturall life" To "my Son Jacob Read my lot of land in Ragged plaine bounded Easterly by the high way Southerly by land of leiut whitmarsh westerly by the Town Common land northerly partly by Ebenezer whitman and partly by land belonging to the heires of John Shaw decd and a part of a lott of land in the thixet the westerly End of that lot and also a lot of land in the great plain and half a lot in the pine Swamp and all my meddow att Reads marsh so Caled near John blanchers land" To "my Daughter Bashua porter" �20 "in money or Currant pay att money price" To "my Daughter Mercy whitmarsh" �20 "in money or Currant pay att mony price" To my Daughter Mary Read" �20 "in money or Currant pat att money price" To "my daughter Hester Read" �20 "in money or Currant pay att money price" To "my Daughter Sarah Read" �20 "in money or Currant pay att money price" To "my Sons John Read and Jacob Read . . . my lot Runing throw the burch Swamp and my Swamp lot in bicknels Swamp So Caled" To "my forementioned three Sons William Read and John Read and Jacob Read my part of the wharfe and my Comen lot by the great pond and all my lands in the Township of bridgwater and my part of the Sawmill in Sd bridgwater to bee Equally Devided amonght them both for quantyty and qallity and further I doe oblidge my Son William Read and John Read to pay my four Daughters first mentioned above to Each of them twenty pounds in money or Currant pay att money price within two years afte my decease and to doe what work their mother Shall need or Reqire in Improveing her land yearly dureing her natural life and I Doe herby oblidge my Son Jacob to pay twenty pounds in money or Currant pay att money price : to my youngest daughter Sarah Read within two years after my decease : if Shee Reqire it so Soon" To "my five Daughters before mentioned . . . all my moveables which Shal Remain after my wifes Decease to be Equaly devided amonght them" "wife Hester Read" and "my Sons William Read and John Read" were appointed executors; and "my loveing freindes Edward Bate Senr and James Humphrey both of weymouth" were appointed "overseears to See this my will performed". The will was signed by "The marck of William Read Senr" and witnessed by Edward Bate, Sr., John Bate, Jr., and Samuel Bate, Jr. The will was presented for probate at Boston 12 September, 1706 by "William Read and John Read, Executors therein named . . . the Executrx being dead", and Edward Bate, Sr. and John Bate, Jr. made oath that they, with Samuel Bate, Jr., witnessed the will of "the abovenamed William Read Senr". The will is endorsed on the back, in the same hand as the record of probating, "Wm Read Senr his Will pved. 12 Septr 1706. Regrd". On 12 September, 1706, "the Will of William Read late of Weymouth . . . deced" was allowed, and administration granted to William Read and John Read "Execrs in the same will named : (Hesther Read Execrx being dead)" (16:173,174) [ref 93:23-72] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | ||||||||||
