Abraham Morrill was a younger brother of Isaac Morrill of Roxbury, and is supposed to have come to New England with him in the Lion, in 1632. His name is first mentioned at Cambridge in January 1632. He was a proprietor there in 1636, and in 1638, was one of the original members of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Boston. He moved to Salisbury, where he was number thirty-one in the list of the original settlers. In 1640, he was granted land in the first division of the town and in 1644 and 1655, he received other grants. In 1641, he was fined for "selling his servant his time." In 1642, with Henry Saywood, he built a sawmill on the Powwow River, the land being granted them for that purpose in 1641. He was a planter, millwright and iron-founder. He was a townsman and commoner of Salisbury, 3 Dec. 1650, and in this same year he was among the five largest tax-payers in the town. In 1658, he was a signer of a petition. Abraham Morrill's homestead was on the green at East Salisbury. After his death, the town bargained with his widow for the homestead "for the use of the ministry," and the land has been used for a parsonage ever since. Isaac Morrill, the elder brother of Abraham Morrill, died in Roxbury in 1661. Rev. John Eliot thus records it:--"1661--Moneth 10, day 21 Isaac Morell an aged brother." He left no Will and Tobias Davis and Sarah (Clements) Morrill testified that they had heard Isaac Morrell upon the 19-10m-1661 [19 Dec. 1661] declare it to be his mind "to give unto his coussine [nephew] Isaac Morrell his Anvile & all his Smiths Tools & Instrumts." And John Smith, Daniel Brewer, and Sarah Morrell testified that "they heard Isaac Morrell ye day before his death declare it to be his minde & will to dispose of his wearing apparell as followeth vizt:--His best Cloake unto his grand child, Sarah Davis: one of his two best suites to his brother Abraham Morrell, eithr his Leathr or his Cloath Suite. The residue of his Cloathes to be divided betweene his two Sonnes." In June 1662, Abraham Morrill fell ill while on a visit in Roxbury. Since he made his Will, 18 June 1662, and Eliot tells us that "Abraham Morrell of Salisbury fell sick in this town & dyed & was buried upon ye 20th of 4m" (Church record, 1662), it is evident that he died between the two dates. She married first, in Haverhill, Mass., 10 June 1645, Abraham Morrill, born in England, died in Roxbury, Mass., 18-20 June 1662. She married secondly, in Salisbury, Mass., 8 Aug. 1665, Thomas Mudgett, who died about 1701. Sarah Clements came with her father, Robert Clements, to Haverhill in 1642. She was a member of the Salisbury Church in 1687. There seems to have been no settlement of Sarah's estate at the time of her death, but a couple of years after her second husband died, her son Isaac Morrill of Salisbury applied to be made her administrator and was bonded with Moses Morrill of Salisbury and John Pengry of Ipswich, 31 Jan. 1703-4. He filed "An Inventory of ye estate of my Honerd Mother Sarah moriel Allis mudgett of Salisbury, Deceasd Intestant," but discovering that all the property she had left was provided for in his father's will be brought into Court a letter addressed:-- "To the Honble John Appleton Esq Judge of probate of Wills &e. I have taken a Letter of adm upon ye estate of my Mother Sarah Morell alias Mudgett Decd" and then stating that the property was his father's, Abraham Morrill's, asks that the matter be dismissed.
