ROBERT3 CLEMENTS (Robert2, Robert1), born in Haverhill, Mass., 29 Mar. 1665, died in Dracut, Mass., 23 Sept. 1741 (recorded at Haverhill 3 Sept. 1741). He married in Haverhill, 18 Dec. 1690, Deliverance Odiorne, birth unknown, died in Haverhill, 3 Mar. 1741, probably a daughter of Philip Odiorne of Portsmouth, N. H. The first mention of Robert Clements, in the records, is in 1673, when Abraham Tyler of Haverhill made, in his will, a bequest to "Robert Clements, son of Robert Clements, 20 acres of the fourth division of upland which Goodman Sharwood gave me." The exact reason for the gift is not evident, as there is no record that Tyler was connected with the Clements family in any way, but the land was given to Tyler by Hugh Sherratt, who adopted Elizabeth Fawne, the mother of Robert3 Clements, and it may have been understood that it was to go back to her child on Tyler's death. Robert3 Clements, like his father, was a cooper. He lived in Haverhill until after the death of his wife Deliverance, when he probably went to Dracut to live with his son Nathaniel, his only surviving child. He owned no land in Dracut, either by grant or purchase. The fact that his death was recorded both at Haverhill and at Dracut indicates that he had not been long a resident of the latter town. When Robert's brother, Nathaniel Clements, died in 1689, his land in Haverhill, with the house he had built on it, became the property of Robert. In 1690 his father added to his holdings and, in 1700-1, gave to Robert still more property in Haverhill. Robert Clements had only two children, a son who survived and a daughter who predeceased him by seven years. He seems to have spent his long life in Haverhill, probably quietly following his trade. Only three deeds of his are recorded in the Essex county Registry. Richard Hazen was the husband of Sarah4, daughter of Fawne Clements, and therefore a niece of this Robert Clements. Robert Clements left no Will and there is no administration on his estate. His only surviving child probably inherited all his property without the estate going through the court. Children, born in Haverhill 1693-97: Dorcas, Nathaniel. [ref 88:85]
