3 May 1855 caught fire on stocks and on the 4th is reported to be far from being put out due to the difficulty the firemen are experiencing finding the seat of the fire.

Mr. J. Scott Russell, ship builder, later reported that no other ship, excepting the �tna, was destroyed in the fire, although the two vessels on either side were scorched by the flames, but it should be possible to remedy the damage in a week or two.
