Aug 1854 Officers visit clipper "Lightning" with a view to taking off pensioners and volunteers for service in the RN [Ed. Note Crimea War - shortage of hands]. It may be of interest to note that the Fantome had to fire warning guns for the "Lightning" when she left harbour, as the master had failed to pay-off the 6 members of the crew who had volunteered for service in the RN
