2 May - 1 Jun 1794 Departure of the Channel Fleet from St. Helen's, and the lead up to actions and manoeuvres with the French fleet. 29 May - 1 Jun., what was to be known as the Battle of the Glorious 1st June commences, resulting in the capture of six sail of the line and one sunk. Review of the part performed by each British ship engaged. 13 Jun, the fleet arrived back in home ports.

14 Feb 1795 the Channel fleet departed from Torbay for a brief cruise and to see various convoys safe out of the Channel.

12 Jun 1795 the Channel Fleet, under Lord Bridport, including the Barfleur, Captain James Richard Dacres, departed from Spithead for Quiberon bay. 22 Jun sighted the French fleet to west of Belle-Isle, and finding the French admiral had no wish for a fight, ordered the Fleet in chase and to engage as ships came up. During the chase the former British 74, Alexander was retaken, along with the French 74s Tigre and Formidable (subsequently renamed Belleisle). And so ended the Battle of the Isle de Groix.

At some date after the Battle of the Isle de Groix, and before about the 8 July joined the Mediterranean fleet (Barfleur, Captain John Bazeley). [which seems a bit doubtful - needs the ship's log to sort this one out.]

8 Jul 1795, the fleet, at anchor at in San-Fiorenzo bay, once aware that the French fleet was close by, gave chase. It was sighted on the 13th and later the order was given for the general chase, but apart from the loss of a 74 by the French the result was inconclusive and resulted in not a little criticism, the consequence perhaps being Admiral Hotham's resignation on 1 Nov 1795.

6 Aug 1795, Admiral Hotham put to sea on a cruise, sighting the French fleet in Toulon road.

9 Mar 1796 boats of a squadron, including the Barfleur, Honourable William Waldegrave, Egmont and Bombay Castle, retake the 28-gun frigate Nemesis from Tunis harbour.

21 Dec 1796 the Tagus. The Mediterranean fleet arrived.

Circa 20 Jan 1797 departed from the Tagus with a Portuguese convoy and was subsequently, 6 Feb., joined off Cape St.-Vincent by a squadron detached from the Channel fleet.

14 Feb 1797 Jervis's action with the Spanish off Cape St Vincent.

31 Mar 1797 departed from Lisbon to blockade Cadiz.

5 Dec 1798 with the squadron off Cadiz.

3 May 1799 prepared for action on receipt of news that the French fleet had escaped from Brest and was heading towards Cadiz. The French were sighted the following day, but stood on for the Mediterranean.

10 May 1799 arrived with the fleet at Gibraltar, and having watered and victualled departed for the Mediterranean.

20 May 1799 Edgar went aground off Minorca : was assisted by the Barfleur and Defence ; anchored in Port-Mahon ; departed on 22 with the Fleet on a cruise.

8 Feb 1800 a court martial was held on board the Gladiator at Portsmouth on a seaman, Richard Pierrepoint, belonging to the Barfleur for desertion, who was found guilty and was sentenced to 100 lashes and to forfeit all his pay.

24 Apr 1800 departed Torbay with the Channel Fleet.

22 Jun 1800 arrived Plymouth to refit.

26 Jun 1800 departed Plymouth to join the Channel fleet.

11 Aug 1800 arrived Plymouth from the Channel fleet with the Magnificent and Saturn, to victual and refit.

22 Aug 1800 departed Plymouth with the Formidable and Unicorn to join the Channel fleet.

27 Sep 1800 arrived Plymouth from off Brest, and anchored in Cawsand Bay, owing to very heavy S.W. gales, the Temeraire, 98, Namur, 98, Prince, 98, Barfleur, 98, Royal George, 110, Neptune, 98, Juste, 84, Russel, 74, Mars, 74, Marlborough, 74, Defence, 74, Elephant, 74, Excellent, 74.

5 Oct 1800 departed Cawsand Bay to join the fleet in Torbay.

3 Dec 1800 arrived Plymouth from Earl St. Vincent's fleet, which passed up for Torbay.

28 Jan 1801 news received at Plymouth that the French fleet had departed Brest and that as a result the ships of the line in Cawsand Bay, the Barfleur, Achille, Russell, were ordered to make preparations to join the Channel Fleet once confirmation of the signal had been received ; were reported to have sailed in the afternoon. The remaining ships, the San Josef, and Prince George were expected to sail tomorrow with V.-Adm. Nelson.

12 Mar 1801 arrived Cawsand Bay from the Channel Fleet.

28 Mar 1801 the Barfleur, R.-Adm. Collingwood, departed Cawsand Bay this morning, with the Formidable, Capt Grindall, for Torbay.

30 Mar 1801 the Channel Fleet, now made up as follows : the Ville de Paris, Adm. Cornwallis ; Royal Sovereign, V.-Adm. Harvey ; Windsor Castle, V.-Adm. Mitchell ; Prince George, R.-Adm. Cotton ; Princess Royal, R.-Adm. Gower, Temeraire, R.-Adm. Whitshed ; Barfleur, R.-Adm. Collingwood ; San Josef, Capt Wolsley ; Atlas, Capt Murray ; Formidable, Capt Grindale ; Glory, Capt Draper ; Prince, Capt Northesk ; and frigate Fisgard, Capt Martin, departed Torbay for the Channel.

3 Sep 1801 came into Cawsand Bay from the Channel Fleet, which were left all well the 1st Sept. off Brest, to victual and water.

8 Sep 1801 departed Cawsand Bay for Portsmouth, to refit.

15 Sep 1801 arrived Spithead the Barfleur from the Channel Fleet.

5 Oct 1801 departed Spithead the Barfleur, to join the Channel Fleet.

8 Oct 1801 arrived Torbay, from Portsmouth last evening and sailed early today for the Channel Fleet.

17 Nov 1801 Admiral Sir A. Mitchell made the signal for unbending sails, which was followed by the fleet, therefore it is supposed the squadron which consists of the following ships will winter near Beerhaven, in Bantry Bay, viz. Windsor Castle, Temeraire, Barfleur, Princess Royal, Formidable, Atlas, Namur, Majestic, Resolution, Vengeance, Malta, of 84 guns, Centaur. The Glory, had put into Cork, and the Juste, had not joined. Provisions were plenty : a fat sheep nine shillings, Geese one shilling each, eggs two-pence per dozen, and fish and game to be had in great abundance.

29 Dec 1801 this evening anchored at St Helen's, IoW, on arrival from Bantry Bay, with the squadron under the command of V.-Adm. Sir A. Mitchell, with a view to trying the mutineers from the Squadron.

22 Jan 1802 the Barfleur, Capt Ommaney ; Malta, Capt Bertie ; Centaur, Capt Littlehales ; Achilles, (sic) Capt Wallis ; Doris, Capt Brisbane., are under orders to depart Spithead for Torbay.

7 Feb 1802 departed Spithead, the Barfleur, 98, R.-Adm. Collingwood, Capt Ommaney ; Glory, 98, Capt Wells ; Malta, 84, Capt Bertie ; Achille, 74, Capt Wallis ; Canada, 74, Capt York ; Centaur, 74, Capt Littlehales ; and Doris, 36, Capt Brisbane, to Torbay, to join the Channel Fleet.

10 Feb 1802 put back to St Helen's the Barfleur, Glory, and Centaur, due to contrary winds, the remainder of the squadron having arrived at Torbay.

11 Feb 1802 departed St Helen's the Barfleur, Glory and Centaur, for Torbay.

12 Feb 1802 re-joined the squadron at Torbay.

27 Feb 1802 arrived Plymouth Sound from Torbay, to be paid six months wages.

4 Mar 1802 paid the Barfleur, 98, and the London, 98.

8 Mar 1802 departed Plymouth Sound for Torbay the Barfleur, 98, and the London, 98, victualled and stored for five months.

10 Apr 1802 a Court Martial was held on board the Barfleur, in Torbay, on the Boatswain of the St. Fiorenzo, for embezzling HM stores ; the charges being proved, he was sentenced to be dismissed HM service, and mulct of all his pay.

12 Apr 1802 a Court Martial was held on board the Barfleur, in Torbay, on W. Fenwick, First Lieutenant of the St. Fiorenzo, was tried for neglect of duty in permitting the said stores to be embezzled ; the charges being proved, he was sentenced to be dismissed HM ship, and to lose two years rank.

13 Apr 1802 a Court Martial was held on board the Barfleur, in Torbay, on C. W. Patterson, Esq. commander of the St. Fiorenzo, was tried for neglect of duty, in permitting a boat to take on shore some stores belonging to his Majesty ; the charges were only in part proved, he was sentenced to be dismissed the St. Fiorenzo, and mulct of two months pay.

14 Apr 1802 a Court Martial was held on board the Barfleur, in Torbay, on Lieut. Gilmore, and the Gunner of the St. Fiorenzo were tried, the former for neglect of duty, and the latter for embezzlement ; the charges were proved against the Lieutenant and he was dismissed the ship; the Gunner was acquitted.

14 Apr 1802 a Court Martial was held on board the Barfleur, in Torbay, on Mr. Mitchell, a Midshipman, also of the St. Fiorenzo, was tried for neglect of duty, and being found guilty, was sentenced to lose one years rated time.

Circa 24 Apr 1802 Mr. Clarke, of the Barfleur, is made a Lieutenant.

3 May 1802 the Barfleur, London, Irresistible, Ramillies, Magicienne, and Sirius, departed Torbay yesterday evening with a light air, to be paid off at Plymouth and Portsmouth, leaving just the fire ship Magaera, and sloops Childers, Atalante, and Sylph off Brixham.

6 May 1802 arrived Spithead the Barfleur, 98, R.-Adm. Collingwood, Captain Ommanney, from Torbay.

9 May 1802 R.-Adm. Collingwood struck his flag on board the Barfleur, which has come into Portsmouth harbour to be paid off.

15 Jan 1803 HMS Barfleur, docked here at Portsmouth during the last Spring Tides, was on Thursday last, placed on iron wedges, and hung on her shores, as a trial of a new plan for the more convenient and expeditious removing of a false keel. The experiment was made in the presence of the Commissioner, Builder, and other principal officers of the yard. This new method saves a great portion of labour, as 26 men performed the task, instead of the 200 which it used to require.

Circa 4 Aug 1804 the Barfleur, Cumberland, Zealous, Success, Dido, and Serpent are being prepared at Portsmouth for being brought into commission.

Circa 17 Nov 1804 the Barfleur was reported to have been coppered in 6 hours by 10 companies of shipwrights.

Circa 24 Nov 1804 Capt George Martin was apptd to the Barfleur, at Portsmouth.

15 Jul 1805 with the blockading squadron off Ferrol, under Sir Robert Calder : departed 30 to 40 leagues off Finisterre to intercept Franco-Spanish fleet from the West Indies. 22nd sighted each other. Signal made to engage the enemy - the engagement. The damage ; subsequent manoeuvres by the two fleets ; the wash-up ; 26 Jul 1805 movements of the fleet following the battle.

5 Nov 1813 arrived off Cape Sicie and was involved in a skirmish with a French squadron off Toulon.

18 Aug 1813 ships' boats of the Undaunted, Redwing, Kite, Caledonia, Hibernia, Barfleur, and Prince-of-Wales captured 3 gun-boats, and 24 merchant settees and tartans in the harbour of Cassis.

12 Feb 1814 a part of the fleet off Toulon which chased a French squadron into that port.
