Notes:

1832 Meteor (1823) renamed Beacon June 1832 and converted as survey ship.

16 May 1832 went into dock at Portsmouth.

17 Jun 1832 taken out of dock, Commander Copeland.

27 Jul 1832 went out to Spithead, and sails next week for the Mediterranean.

31 Jul 1832 departed Spithead for the Mediterranean.

31 Aug 1832 arrived Malta from Portsmouth.

5 Oct 1832 at Gibraltar.

Salonica 21 Mar 1833 captured 6 piratical boats, near Thasso.

4 Dec 1833 remains Malta.

18 Feb 1834 at Valletta.

23 Mar 1834 shortly to resume survey of the Archipelago.

Malta 1 Aug 1834 Surveying at Port Olivier (Mytelene).

19 Dec 1834 Vourla Bay.

31 Jan 1835 is reported to be at Malta.

1 Jul 1835 reported to be surveying the coast in the Archipelago.

Portsmouth 30 Oct 1835 it is reported that the Beacon, survey vessel, has been order home after 3� years in commission.

Malta 8 Nov 1835 is surveying in the Levant.

Malta 6 Dec 1835 is reported to be at Athens.

Malta 17 Feb 1836 departed for England.

Portsmouth 9 Apr 1836 arrived yesterday at the Motherbank from Malta. It is noted that the Motherbank was invariably used for ships under quarantine.

Portsmouth 16 Apr 1836 departed Tuesday for the Clyde to bring down seamen volunteers for the ships now commissioning.

Portsmouth 4 Jun 1836 arrived on Sunday from the Orkneys with newly raised seamen, and came into harbour on Monday and was paid-off earlier today.

13 Feb 1839 at Malta.

16 Mar 1839 at Malta.

12 Oct 1839 to leave Smyrna for Athens on the 26th, where she will be joined by the Magpie. Both these surveying vessels will be paid off very shortly at Malta, and be recommissioned by their respective commanders. The officers and crews will re-enter or not, at their own option.

11 Mar 1840 is reported to be at Malta.

5 April 1840 Malta, Beacon and Magpie sail Monday for Athens and following a month fitting out tenders proceed to resume their last year's surveys.

16 May 1840 The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty have awarded Colour-Sergeant W. Harris, Royal Marines, late of Her Majesty's ship Beacon, paid off at Malta, a medal and gratuity of �15, for long service and good conduct.

25 June 1840 arrives at Rhodes, on the 26th ult., and was lying there on the 15th inst.

13 Jul 1840 arrived Mytelene from Smyrna and returned on the 14th.

29 Aug 1840 at Smyrna.

23 Nov 1840 was to leave Piraeus for Malta, where, with her tender, the Magpie, she will remain until the end of March next.

30 Jan 1841 Lieutenant J. B. West, from the Beacon appointed to the Powerful.

12 Feb 1841 at Malta.

13 Feb 1841 Lieutenant James Banks West, appointed to the Powerful, from the Beacon.

27 Feb 1841 Lieutenant Thomas Graves (of the Beacon surveying vessel), promoted to the rank of commander.

21 Feb 1841 Malta, left for Syracuse, to water.

4 Mar 1841 arrived Malta from Syracuse.

13 Apr 1841 Midshipmen David Aird, of the Beacon, passed for lieutenant

16 Jul 1841 remains at Candia.

30 Sep 1841 at Port Nassau, Poros.

Circa 2 Dec 1841 at Constantinople, dressed overall, following the announcement of the accouchement of Queen Victoria.

4 Dec 1841 departed Constantinople for the coast of Carmania.

14 Mar 1842 arrived Malta from Macri.

5 Apr 1842 has been put on standby to go to Xanthus, Lycia, with 100 men, carts and rafts to recover sculptered marbles discovered by Mr Fellows, which were reported to be more valuable than the Elgin marbles. The crew of the Beacon had been employed on this task, but without carts and rafts etc. were unable to move the heavy objects on the bad roads.

5 May 1842 is expected to depart Malta shortly to continue her survey work in the Archaepelago.

7 May 1842 departed Malta for Athens where she will be joined by the Magpie prior to their departure for Port Nassau to continue their survey of the Greek Archaepelago.

5 Jun 1842 reported to be at Port Nassau surveying the Archipelago.

5 Aug 1842 the Magicienne is understood to be supplying provisions shortly to the Beacon and Magpie surveying off Paros.

8 Aug 1842 Magicienne departed Malta for Smyrna, calling at Paros en route with supplies for the Beacon and Magpie.

15 Sep 1842 surveying at Suda in Candia.
