Notes:
1890 Devonport. Officers borne in Indus.
9 Dec 1900 The cruiser, which was to relieve the Magicienne on the Cape of Good Hope Station, while at anchor in the Sound during the gale, parted her port cable. The ship had drifted a considerable distance towards Drake's Island before her danger was discovered. The starboard bower anchor was then let go, and the ship was brought up. An official inquiry is to be held, as the Blanche's cables were tested before she was commissioned. All her cables will now have to be landed and tested again before the naval authorities are satisfied.
