Type: Store ship ; formerly the East Indiaman Hindustan, built 1812-13. Armament 18, but later appears to have been reduced to 6 guns when carrying timber.

17 Jan 1814 arrived Spithead from the Downs.

24 Jan 1814 at Spithead.

14 Feb 1814 after several earlier failed attempts departed with the Bulwark, Saturn, Hydra, and the Bermuda and Halifax convoys, the persistent fog having lifted.

21 Jul 1814 departed Spithead for the Downs.

Deal 9 Sep 1814 came down from the river and departed to the Westward.

24 Sep 1814 at Spithead, reputedly carrying stores for the dockyards at Antigua and Port Royal.

20 Oct 1814 has dropped down to St. Helen's (sheltered anchorage to the east of the IoW) with the Valiant and transports and trade bound to Cork.

2 Dec 1814 departed St. Helen's with convoys for the Brazils, West Indies, Bermuda, and Newfoundland, said to be over 200 vessels.

25 Dec 1814 departed Falmouth with about 225 vessels for the West Indies etc.

6 Jun 1815 arrived Plymouth Sound, from Jamaica.

10 Jun 1815, has arrived at Spithead.

20 Aug 1815 departed Deal for the River.

26 Aug 1815 arrived Spithead.

28 Aug 1815 departed Spithead for the Mediterranean.

Deal 26 Mar 1816 departed for Barbadoes.

8 Apr 1816, en route Woolwich to Bermuda, Lloyds Marine List reports spoken with 15 Mar in lat 37� 12', lon 74�, all well.

2 May 1816, the Rose, Thompson, reports having been boarded by the Buffalo, store ship, bound for Bermuda in lat 32� 14', lon 52� 55'. 30 May 1816, arrived Halifax, 6 days from Bermuda.

5 Jul 1816, departed Halifax, for Portsmouth, England.

1 Aug 1816, arrived Spithead, from Halifax.

1830 Woolwich

1831 being fitted out to carry timber home from New Zealand.

16 Jun 1831, towed from Woolwich to Standgate Creek by the African steamer, to act as a temporary lazaretto as a result of the current outbreak of cholera in Russia and adjoining countries.

Chatham 2 Mar 1833 is being fitted out as a convict-ship for New South Wales, to take out 200 female convicts, after which she will sail for New Zealand for timber, having on board an experienced mast maker, along with carpenter's mates to select and superintend the shipment.

Portsmouth 7 May 1833 arrived from London, for Van Dieman's Land.

Portsmouth 12 May 1833 departed for Van Dieman's Land.

At sea 7 Jul 1833 Spoke with a ship off Cape Frio.

Rio de Janeiro 10 Jul 1833 arrived and due to sail shortly to New South Wales.

NSW 10 Nov 1833 departed for NZ.

New Zealand 26 Jun 1834 departed for England.

Rio Janeiro 11 Sep 1834 departed for Plymouth.

Plymouth 20 Nov 1834 arrived in the Sound from New Zealand with timber, last from Rio Janeiro.

17 Jan 1835 in harbour at Portsmouth

21 Feb 1835 Portmsouth is to be docked on the 25th.

23 Apr 1836 Portsmouth, has been commissioned in preparation for a passage to South Australia, with settlers and a new governor, and for New Zealand, for timber.

23 Jul 1836 Portsmouth, departed for South Australia.

27 Dec 1836 is reported to have arrived at Kangaroo Island, South Australia with the Governor, and is expected to remain for a while.

31 May 1839 Portsmouth, arrived from Sheerness, en route for Quebec, with detachments of various regiments, where she will embark 300 convicts for New South Wales, and then proceed to New Zealand for timber.

1 Jun 1839 Masters' Assistant James Crosby, appointed to the Buffalo.

26 Sep 1839 Quebec, the Buffalo, Mr. Wood master, was to leave for the Cape and Sydney, with the political convicts on board, one of whom murdered Lieutenant Weir, at the commencement of the rebellion. The Buffalo will then proceed to New Zealand for timber.

12 Feb 1840 arrived Hobart-Town with Canadian convicts : having landed her prisoners departed for Sydney on the 19th.

28 Jul 1840 was run ashore in extreme weather in Mercury Bay, NZ : all the crew but 2, AB Moore and Boy Cornes, were saved.

12 Mar 1841 A Court of Inquiry was held on the officers late of the Buffalo, for the loss of the ship.
