2 Aug 1850 detained in Lat. 4 50' S. Long. 13 0' E., the Brazilian slave brig Esperanca, with 687 slaves on board.

19 Oct 1850 detained in Lat. 4 48' N. Long. 4 47' E., the Brazilian slave schooner Feliz Aurora, with 237 slaves on board, Antonio Luiz de Carvalho, master ; she was condemned on 23 Nov 1850, by the Vice-Admiralty Court at Sierra Leone, 235 slaves being emancipated.

16 Dec 1850 at sea in lat. 15 30' S. Long. 3 54' E., flag ship on the Weat Coast of Africa. The Commodore reporting to the Admiralty the detention, by the Cyclops, on 25 Nov 1850, of the Portuguese brigantine Veiga, now fraudulently wearing the colours of Brazil, and with 623 slaves on board, embarked the previous night at Mazula, Angola, having only a few days since departed Loanda.

24 Feb 1851 at Sierra Leone, with the Commodore writing to the Admiralty forwarding correspondence concerning the anti-slavery activities of HM sloop Sealark off the Portuguese fort of Quicombo.

2 Jun 1851 Left Sierra Leone with 11 Spanish prisoners, formerly a part of the crew of the slave brigantine Desengano, detained by the Penguin in 8 Apr.

11 Jun 1851 off Palmas where the 11 Spanish prisoners were landed as requested by the Spanish Consul at Sierra Leone.

16 Jun 1851 Left Madeira.

23 Jun 1851 arrived Portsmouth. Paid-off. The Centaur, 6 steam frigate, Captain Patten, bearing the broad pendant of Commodore Fanshawe, arrived at Spithead, this morning from the coast of Africa, with invalids, mail and despatches from the [anti-slavery patrol] squadron, off West Africa. Since commissioning in Jan 1849, she has taken 5 prizes, including the Esperanza, 730 slaves ; and another with 370 in her. The slave trade is reported to be diminishing ; and the squadron was generally healthy. The vessel will come into harbour tonight and be paid off here at Portsmouth.

31 Dec 1851 at Monte Video. Flag ship on the South East Coast of South America. R.-Adm. Henderson writing to the Admiralty regarding the exploits of the Locust at Bahia, and her co-operation with the local authorities regarding the slave vessel Relampago, detained by a Brazilian schooner.

13 Sep 1853 probably at Rio de Janeiro.

15 Nov 1853 at Bahia, as flag ship on the Brazil Station. Has lately been employed on the coast cruising between Pernambuco and St. Catherine's.

24 Mar 1856 The Centaur, 6, paddle frigate, Captain Clifford, has been taken out of the basin today.

28 Mar 1856 The Centaur, 6, paddle frigate, Captain Clifford, having completed her refit, had her compasses adjusted today, and went out of harbour, and joined the Baltic Fleet.

The Centaur.- Notice is given to the officers and company of her Majesty's steam-ship Centaur, C. H. M. Buckle, Esq, Captain, that they will be paid on Tuesday, the 16th of April next; at No. 22, Arundel-street, Strand, London, their respective proportions of the proceeds and tonnage bounties for the Brazilian slave schooner Veloz, seized on the 2nd of October, 1849, and that the list will be recalled, at the same place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for the three following months.
