Notes:

14-20 May 1798 Involved in expedition to Ostende, supporting the army.

13 Aug-Oct 1799 employed on expedition to Holland.

27 Jun-8 Jul 1800 involved in the operation to capture the French frigate D�sir�e from Dunkerque harbour and burn other vessels. The D�sir�e was subsequently purchased into the Service.

Circa 30 Jun 1800 Captain Campbell, of the Dart sloop, has got the rank of post, and is appointed to the frigate D�sir�e, that he cut out of Dunkirk.

Circa 30 Jun 1800 Captain Devonshire is appointed to the Dart.

Dart 01 Aug 1800 Circa 1 Aug 1800 Captain Patrick Campbell, late of his Majesty's sloop Dart, who so gallantly captured the fine French frigate D�sir�e, under the very guns of Dunkirk, and in view of a number of the enemy's ships, is appointed by the Lords of the Admiralty to the command of the Ariadne.

18 Aug 1800 Portsmouth, arrived the Dart sloop, 18, from the Downs.

20 Aug 1800 Portsmouth, departed for the Downs.

5 Mar 1801 departed the Downs for Spithead.

6 Mar 1801 arrived Spithead the Camel store-ship, the Dart, and the Racoon, with a large convoy from the Downs, among which are the following outward bound East Indiamen ; True Briton, Hindustan, Lord Hawkesbury, Airley Castle, Charlton, Duke of Montrose, Dover Castle, Calcutta, Asia, Windham, and Lord Duncan ; and the Admiral Rainier and Kent for the Cape of Good Hope.

10 Mar 1801 arrived in the downs last night, and sailed this morning with the outward-bound convoy.

Circa 12 Mar 1801 fleet under Admiral Sir Hyde Parker and Lord Nelson, consisting of 17 ships of the line, 3 frigates, 10 gun-brigs, nearly as many bomb-ketches, with smaller vessels usually attendant on a fleet, making in the whole nearly 50 sail, got under weigh from Yarmouth Roads at the break of day, and by eight o'clock had cleared the Sands ; they directed their course to the northward, wafted by a fine breeze at S.W. as departed from Yarmouth roads for Copenhagen (Naval Chronicle). On arrival at Copenhagen supported the ships-of-the-line as required.

7 Apr 1801 arrived the Danish brig Amphitrite, Bot, master, laden with sugar and hides &c., bound from Lisbon to Hambro', and detained by the Dart.

12 Apr 1801 the fleet departed from Copenhagen into the Baltic.

18 Jun 1801 a letter of this date, received from Kioge Bay, in the Baltic, reports the presence of the following fleet, this at about the same time as Lord Nelson departed in the Kite for N. Yarmouth, V.-Adm Pole having arrived here in the Aeolus to relieve Nelson : the St George, Elephant, Defiance, Polyphemus, Edgar, Agamemnon, Defence, Adder, Aeolus, Kite, Dart, Zebra, Terror, Explosion, Sulphur, Discovery, Volcano, Hecla, Wrangler, Cracker, Safeguard, Sparkler, Attack, Tigress, Bruiser, Hasty, Biter, Otter, Force, Pleaser, Teazer.

16 Aug 1801 arrived in the Downs from a cruise.

30 Sep 1801 departed the Downs on a cruise to the Westward.

18 Oct 1801 arrived in the Downs from Dungeness, a strong westerly gale blowing at the present time.

11 Nov 1801 departed the Downs with the Savage on a cruise.

21 Dec 1801 arrived in the Downs from a cruise.

23 Dec 1801 departed the Downs on a cruise, but put back later due to contrary winds.

29 Dec 1801 departed the Downs on a cruise.

12 Nov 1803 the Dart, Inspector, Avenger, Orestes, Zephyr, and Abundance store ship, have now dropped down from Deptford and Woolwich to Long Reach, in the Medway, to take in their guns and powder, and wait only a fair wind to proceed to the Nore.

Circa 26 Nov 1803 the Dart, Inspector, Avenger, Orestes, Zephyr, and Abundance store ship, have dropped down from Long Reach to the Nore to complete their complement of men.

7 Dec 1803 arrived in the Downs last night from a cruise off the Coast of France.

15 Dec 1803 remains in the Downs.
