25 Jul 1801 Floating battery Vlieter departed Sheerness, to be stationed about 7 leagues below the Nore, to the Northward, and the gun brig Defence, Lt Levey, to the Southward, to guard the coast in accordance with Admiralty instructions ordering an outer defence ring supervising the vessels allowed to approach a port.
