Dispatch, 1802
Type: Powder ship; Armament ?
Converted : Oct 1802 ;
Disposal date or year : 18??
Notes:

13 Oct 1802 in view of the great quantities of powder having been landed at the magazine at Keyham Point, above Morrice Town from HM ships being paid off in Hamoaze, following the signing of the Peace of Amiens, it is noted in the Morning Post of 16 Oct., that the magazine at Keyham Point is now full and the Dispatch has been fitted out as a powder ship, to be based, surprisingly to me, in the lower part of Hamoaze, where she already has 12,000 barrels of powder on board. I say surprisingly since I understood the reason for landing the powder was to remove the danger of having vessels loaded with powder in the harbour exploding, as happened less than 10 years previously at Plymouth, with great loss of life.

13 Oct 1802 unfortunately the origins of this vessel remain obscure, with a number of vessels with this name, and alternative spellings, being around at this date, the disposal of some noted as 1801, but no details given.

13 Oct 1802 is was also noted in the article that the magazine at the Citadel was in need of repair and the powder had been moved to a safe place at Dock, with numerous ammunition wagons in recent days.
