Notes:

May 1817 chased Tunisian vessels that had captured the Hamburg vessel Ocean. The Ocean was released and the Tunisians were escorted clear of the Channel. See p. 231 at www.archive.org/details/royalnavyhistory06clow. The Eagle isn't mentioned by Clowes, but in view of the award of the gratuity mentioned in the following articles one wonders if it shouldn't have been ?

16 May 1817 a special service rendered to foreign merchant vessels by HM sloop Alert, John Smith, Esq Commander, and Eagle Revenue cutter, Lieutenant Pogson, Commander. One wonders if this alludes to the previous article.

4 Sep 1817 proportions of a gratuity presented to Captain Smith for the special service rendered to foreign merchant vessels on 16 May 1817 due to be paid.

Harwich 16 Nov 1819 Has detained and brought in a lugger, with 300 tubs of spirits, tea and tobacco, with 22 men, one of whom was killed and several wounded in the affray.
