1780 Rodney's victory off Cape St Vincent over Spanish.

Portsmouth 2 Oct 1785 came into harbour.

14 Apr 1793, with a squadron, en route for the Mediterranean, which captured the San-Iago, a large Spanish galleon, under French colours and the French privateer General Dumourier, of 22 long 6-pounders and 196 men, an event which may have had some effect on the resulting war with Spain.

14 Jul 1793 departed with the Channel fleet from St. Helen's. On the 18th to the west of the Scilly Isles and subsequent manoeuvres.

31 Jul 1793 briefly sighted, but was unable to close the French fleet ; returned to Torbay on 10 Aug.

23 Aug 1793 the Channel Fleet departed to escort the Newfoundland trade, West Indian convoys in home waters.

27 Oct 1793 departed in search of the French fleet and squadrons. 18 Nov brief skirmish with a French squadron : by mid-December the fleet had returned to Spithead.

5 Dec 1798 with the squadron off Cadiz.

Circa 10 May 1799 having left Gibraltar for Tetuan bay to water, returned to Gibraltar to join the fleet.

11 May 1799 departed with the fleet for the Mediterranean.

20 May 1799 went aground off Minorca : assisted by the Barfleur and Defence, anchored in Port-Mahon : departed on 23 to join the Fleet on a cruise.

27 Aug 1799 Plymouth, in Cawsand Bay.

10 Sep 1799 Plymouth, Captain E. Butler, Commandant of the South Devon sea-Fencibles, is appointed to the command of the Edgar, 74, in Cawsand Bay.

11 Nov 1799 Plymouth, departed for Torbay the Namur and Edgar.

23 Feb 1800 Plymouth, arrived from Admiral Sir A. Gardner�s fleet off Brest, which she left on Tuesday last, having sprung her main mast, the Edgar, 74, Captain E. Buller.

29 Apr 1800 Plymouth, went down into Cawsand Bay.

13 May 1800 Plymouth, departed with the Dragon to join the Channel fleet.

5 Oct 1800 Plymouth, departed from Cawsand Bay to join the fleet in Torbay, with the Prince, Prince George, Barfleur, Excellent, Neptune, Elephant, and Doris, 36.

23 Oct 1800 Deuarnez Bay, with the flying squadron off the Black Rocks, composing the ships of the line Caesar, Pompee, Canada, Defence, Edgar, Warrior, Defiance, and Nimrod cutter ; the weather was very fine.

9 Nov 1800 Plymouth, arrived from the Coast of France.

18 Nov 1800 Plymouth, went up the Harbour to refit.

26 Feb 1801 arrived Plymouth Sound to exchange the Edgar for the Achille, as she draws less water, and is destined for the North Sea, Captain G. Murray being perfectly acquainted with the difficult and intricate navigation of those seas.

7 Mar 1801 departed Plymouth Sound to join the North Sea Fleet.

Circa 12 Mar 1801 fleet under Admiral Sir Hyde Parker departed from Yarmouth roads for Copenhagen. 30 Mar the vessels initially detailed to take part in the forthcoming Battle of Copenhagen. 1 Apr the vessels detailed sail for Copenhagen ; the British ships held in reserve ; the Danish positions : 2 Apr the battle commences : the truce : the casualties : the wash-up :

12 Apr 1801 the fleet departed from Copenhagen into the Baltic.

8 May 1801 to cruise off Carlscrona.

18 Jun 1801 a letter of this date, received from Kioge Bay, in the Baltic, reports the presence of the following fleet, this at about the same time as Lord Nelson departed in the Kite for N. Yarmouth, V.-Adm Pole having arrived here in the Aeolus to relieve Nelson : the St George, Elephant, Defiance, Polyphemus, Edgar, Agamemnon, Defence, Adder, Aeolus, Kite, Dart, Zebra, Terror, Explosion, Sulphur, Discovery, Volcano, Hecla, Wrangler, Cracker, Safeguard, Sparkler, Attack, Tigress, Bruiser, Hasty, Biter, Otter, Force, Pleaser, Teazer.

10 Aug 1801 arrived Spithead from the Baltic as a part of a Fleet under the command of Vice-Admiral Pole.

C 17 Aug 1800 Capt Murray apptd from the Edgar to the London, vice Act Capt Otway. Act Capt Otway apptd to the Edgar.

31 Aug 1801 departed Spithead the Edgar and the Elephant, to join the Channel Fleet.

19 Nov 1801 remained in Torbay the Ville de Paris, Royal Sovereign, Prince of Wales, Neptune, Prince, Royal George, San Joseph, London, Magnificent, Bellerophon, Hercule, Donegal, Robust, Edgar, Belleisle, Courageux, Fisgard, Amelia, Indefatigable, Childers, Atlanta, Nimrod. The Nile cutter departing for Plymouth to be paid off.

28 Dec 1801 remained with the Channel Fleet in Torbay with the Ville de Paris.

28 Jan 1802 departed Torbay for Plymouth.

29 Jan 1802 arrived Plymouth Sound from Torbay, the Edgar, 74, Captain Otway, to be paid wages, and return to Torbay.

23 Feb 1802 during the recent storms it is learned at Plymouth that the Edgar's barge was driven from her anchors in Torbay and went on shore, when her crew were saved.

2 Mar 1802 departed Torbay the Irresistible, Robust, Edgar, Audacious, Magnificent, Excellent, and Bellerophon, on a cruise, but there being little wind the exercise was performed by the various ships' boats towing them out.

Mar 1802 passed by Plymouth, to the westward, with sealed orders, the Edgar, 74, Excellent, 74, Bellerophon, 74, Robuste, 74, Magnificent, 74, and Audacious, 74. They lay to becalmed with light winds off the Edystone, but the wind freshening at N.N.W. the squadron soon made sail, and were clear of land about sunset.

13 May 1802 the Brunswick, Bellona, Vengeance, Orion, Defence, Edgar, Elephant, Powerful, and Carnatic departed Jamaica for England.

24 Jun 1802 arrived off the Isle of Wight the Defence, Edgar, Elephant, and Powerful, which continued to the Eastward to Sheerness to be paid off and arrived in the Downs later that day ; the Bellona, Vengeance, Brunswick, and Orion, which had accompanied them from Jamaica for 6 weeks having departed for Portsmouth, the Carnatic having already been sent into Plymouth.

27 Jun 1802 arrived Sheerness, from the West Indies, and departed to Chatham to be paid off.

Circa 13 Jul 1802 Mr. Ridge, of Chichester, Midshipman, who was wounded on board the Edgar, off Copenhagen, on the 2d of April, is made a Lieutenant into Le Tigre, now at Malta.

20 Jul 1802 head money for those present at the Engagement at Copenhagen, on the 2d April 1801, due for payment.

Doubled and sheathed &c.from upper part of wales to keel and strengthened with diagonal braces

May 1805 Chatham repairing in Ordinary.

9 - 11 Aug 1808 involved in the evacuation of 10,000 Spanish troops from Denmark to England and thence to Spain, following Spain's determination to evict the French invaders from Spain, which involved a boat action against the Danish vessels Fama, and Salorman.

2 Jan 1810 arrived Portsmouth with a convoy.

Dec 1813 converted for use as a convict hulk.

19 Aug 1814 renamed Retribution.
