4 May 1796, when cruising off Bermuda, the Spencer out-departed the sloop Bonetta and Esperance to capture the French gun-brig Volcan. On the same day the Bonetta and Esperance re-captured the Le Poisson Volant, formerly the schooner Flying Fish, taken in the West Indies.
