Notes:

1 Mar 1799 Plymouth, arrived the Fowey Cutter, Lieutenant Denby, from the Downs, having sprung his mast in a gale of wind.

30 Apr 1799 Plymouth, arrived from Lord Bridport, with dispatches antecedent to the Dolly's and has sprung her boom.

7 May 1799 Plymouth, departed for Cawsand Bay, to be under the command of Admiral Gardner.

8 May 1799 Plymouth, departed with dispatches for Lord Bridport.

3 Jul 1799 Plymouth, came in the Two Friends of Waterford for London, with provisions, taken by the Vengeance French privateer from Vigo, and retaken by the Fowey cutter, 11 leagues S.W. of Cape Finisterre. The Goodwill, a sloop with butter and lard, was retaken at the same time, just as the Two Friends left the Fowey.

6 Jul 1799 Plymouth, arrived from carrying dispatches to Vice Admiral Sir A. Gardner, Bart. Spoke the Mars, all well, last Monday, off the Isle of Aix ; besides the two vessels already retaken by the Fowey, she has taken the Tiro, with tin, &c. What is remarkable, on her last voyage she was taken by a French privateer, and retaken by the Railleur, 20 guns, Captain Rayner ; her cargo sold, salvage paid, she proceeded to take in tin, and was taken and again retaken by the Fowey, and sent in here.

13 Jul 1799 Plymouth, letters from Cork state the arrival there of the Goodwill, with lard and butter, captured by the Vengeance, French privateer, and recaptured by the Fowey cutter.

22 Jul 1799 Plymouth, came in the Juno, from Dantzig, for Nantz, detained by the Fowey cutter.

28 Jul 1799 Plymouth, arrived from a cruise off the Ushant having spoken with the Arethusa frigate, having on board HRH the Dukc of Kent, all well on Friday last off the Lizard.

6 Aug 1799 Plymouth, arrived with the Clyde and they are ordered to sail with the Diamond on a secret expedition, supposed off Brest, to watch the motions of the combined fleets. The Diamond is hourly expected from Portsmouth.

8 Aug 1799 Plymouth, departed with secret orders the Clyde, 38, Diamond 38, and Fowey cutter, on a cruise to the westward.

10 Sep 1799 Plymouth, arrived this morning, with dispatches from Lord Bridport ; she left the fleet all well last Sunday off Brest, 41 sail of the line and 11 frigates. She brought passenger Captain White of the Magaera fire-ship, made a post Captain.

21 Sep 1799 from the London Gazette, words to the effect that notice is given to the Officers and Company of the Fowey, commanded by Lieut. John Derby, who were actually on board, at the recapture of the brigs Friends and Tejo, on the 17th June and 3d of July last, that an a/c of the salvage received for the said brigs and their cargoes, will be deposed in the registry of the High Court etc.

8 Oct 1799 Plymouth, has sent in the Two Friends, Smidt, from Havannah, bound for Altona, supposed Spanish property.

12 Oct 1799 Plymouth, arrived the Two Friends, Smidt, from the Havannah, bound to Altona, detained by the Fowey cutter, Lt. Derby.

16 Oct 1799 Plymouth, the Fowey cutter, has taken and sent in the smuggling lugger of Fowey, from Guernsey, with 450 ankers of spirits, and several bales of tobacco.

5 Nov 1799 Plymouth, arrived with the Fisgard, and Clyde, from a cruise off Brest.

18 Nov 1799 Plymouth, departed, to join Lord Bridport's fleet off Brest, with the Fisgard.

13 Dec 1799 the Fowey cutter, joined the Clyde, Ethalion, Fisgard off Brest.

23 Dec 1799 Plymouth, letters from the Ethalion, 38, of the 14th inst. state that the Clyde, Ethalion, Fisgard, and the Fowey cutter, had looked into the outer road of Brest, and then appeared ready for sea near fifty sail of all descriptions. The above frigates chased into Kediarne Bay a coasting convoy of 10 sail, which they hoped to cut out.

16 Jan 1800 Plymouth, letters received from the Fowey cutter. Lt. Derby, state, that she arrived safe the 24th ult. in Crookhaven, after striking on the Saints Rocks the 18th ult and making much water. She was driven into the Bay of Biscay, short of provisions, and leaky ; but by a fortunate shift of wind, she bore away for Ireland, and got into Beerhaven Bay short of provisions.

27 Jan 1800 Plymouth, arrived very leaky from Beerhaven, making much water.

30 Mar 1800 Plymouth, arrived from a cruise off the Penmarks, the Fowey, having carried away her bowsprit in a gale.

5 Apr 1800 Plymouth, departed with dispatches for Lord Bridport, on the French coast.

8 May 1800 Plymouth, arrived from Earl St. Vincent's fleet with dispatches.

8 May 1800 Plymouth, the Fowey and Dolly cutters attempted to set fire to the remains of the Repulse, but were obliged to quit her a second time, for fear of the batteries.

30 May 1800 Plymouth, departed on a cruise.
