All gunboats from 1 Jan 1856, are to be commissioned as independent commands with a crew of 36 men and officers.

28 Jan 1856 To be fitted out immediately and to proceed to Spithead to join the fleet of gun and mortar vessels destined for the Baltic service.

25 Nov 1862 the Handy (Lieut. Glover), was visited at Lagos by Commodore Wilmot, senior officer on the West Coast of Africa station, who came across the bar from the Rattlesnake to visit the Governor and other local dignatories.
