16 No 1804 the third loss of an RN ship recently was the armed ship Hannibal, Capt O'Connor, which drifted from her anchors in the Downs, and drove on shore near Sandown Castle, where she soon went to pieces : her crew was saved, as were a part of her stores. Hampshire Telegraph of 3 Dec 1804. The other two vessels were the Venerable, lost on rocks, near Berry Head, and the Romney, lost on the South Haak Sand, 5 miles west of the Texel.
