Notes:

Circa 21 Nov 1803 with the threat of a French invasion the HEIC has voted 10,000 tons of shipping, as armed transports, for the protection of the coast of Great Britain, including the Helder, 679 tons, 26 guns (20 x 9 pdrs ; 6 x 6 pdrs), which has been apptd to the Leith Station.

Circa 16 Jun 1804 Capt Searle apptd to the Helder.

30 Aug 1804 arrived Spithead from the Downs.

6 Sep 1804 departed Spithead to the Westward.

1-3 Oct 1804 fire ships expended and the trial of a new form of fire boat known as a "catamaran," on the French flotillas anchored off Boulogne. The officers in charge of the fire or explosion vessels were as follows : Capts MacLeod, of the Sulphur ; Jackson, of the Autumn ; Edwards of the Fury ; Collard of the Railleur ; and Searle of the Helder defence ship. Lieuts Stewart of the Monarch ; Lowry of the Leopard ; Payne of the Immortalite ; Templer of the Sulphur ; Midshipman Bartholomew of the Inflexible ; Capts Winthrop of the Ardent ; and Owen of the Immortalite, superintended the operations from the Southward ; and Hon Capt Blackwood, of the Euryalus, from the Northward. 29 Dec 1804 arrived Spithead the armed ship Helder, Capt Walker, from the Downs.

N.B. Since some of these vessels have the same names as RN vessels I've included these HEIC vessels, where known, in an attempt to avoid confusion. The vessels listed on 21 Nov 1803 included the Norfolk, Chapman, Helder, Lord Forbes, Atlas, Paragon, Aurora, Triton, Lord Nelson, Indefatigable, Duckenfield, Sir Alexander Mitchell, Diadem, Albion, Perseus, Suffolk, Robert, Anacreon, Sceptre, Waller.
