DNS 2 Jun 1900 The Highflyer, which was commissioned last December, to relieve the cruiser Eclipse as Flag Ship of the East Indies station, has been in Dockyard hands at Devonport for several weeks, having defects remeied. Yesterday she went into the Channel for a full power trial, and for three hours her machinery worked splendidly. The, however, the starboard high-pressure cylinder gave out, and the trial had to be abandoned. It will be a week before the vessel is ready for sea again, and thus the departure of the torpedo-boat destroyers Conflict, Coquette, Cygnet and Hornet, is a third time delayed, owing to the breakdown of their intended convoy.
