12 Jan 1871 carried out heeling trials in Keyham Basin.

1879 Being Repaired by Messrs Laird, Birkenhead.

11 Jan 1882, the body of Petty Officer May, of the Hotspur, was discovered at the foot of one of the piers of Camel's Head Bridge, near Saltash : foul play suspected.

Apr 1886 Holyhead.

19 Jun 1886 The Channel Squadron consisting of HM Ships Hercules, Northampton, Devastation, Penelope, Hotspur, Ajax, Shannon and Belleisle, from Portland to Bantry Bay passed the Lizard at 10 am today.

21 May 1887 Recommissioned at Portsmouth with crew turned over from the "Penelope".

1890 Ship of First Reserve. Coast Guard and Drill Ship of Naval Reserve, Harwich.

11 Mar 1900 It is reported that the Hotspur is to be recommissioned on the North America and West Indies Station.
