28 Mar 1815 The Howe when launched, had been fitted with the system of diagonal timbering by Sir Robert Seppings whilst building.

Jul 1830 Sheerness

Sheerness 2 Jan 1836 a court martial was held on board the Howe, on the captain of the Racer, Commander James Hope, for running the vessel ashore on the coast of Labrador.

13 Jan 1836 it is reported that a court martial was held on board the Ocean, tender to the Howe, at Sheerness, of the Captain, William Jones, and the master, Mr. Yule, of the Vestal which grounded on 26 Jul 1835, on the island of Portuga Salada, on the coast of Laguayra, on the coast of South America. They were acquitted, the charts lacking vital information.

16 Aug 1840 Clerk-in-Charge W. C. Hopkins, appointed from the Howe to the Shearwater.

2 Oct 1840 Mr. J. Brown, from the Ocean, has been appointed gunner to the Howe.

3 Oct 1840, Lieutenant B. Sharpe appointed to the Howe ;

3 Oct 1840 is expected at Spithead early next week, from Woolwich, on her way to Cork and the Mediterranean. She will be filled here with stores and provisions for the fleet in that quarter.

3 Oct 1840, Assistant Surgeon Dr. G. Nicholls ; Mate B. Proctor appointed to the Howe. Lieutenant A. Sharpe and Messrs. Beauchamp and Proctor, Mates, have been appointed to the Howe, from the Excellent, as gunnery officers, with 12 seamen gunners.

9 Oct 1840 Woolwich, the Salamander left Sheerness on Wednesday, with the Howe, 120 guns, Captain Sir W. O. Pell, in tow, for the Downs whence both ships will proceed to Spithead.

10 Oct 1840 Midshipman James Hawkins ; Volunteers 1st class J. Montgomerie, and T. P. C. Owen, George Stratton, ; Clerks Benjamin W. Tribe (additional), and J. D. Parminster, appointed to the Howe.

8 Oct 1840 Spithead, arrived from Sheerness, for the purpose of completing her crew and stores previous to her sailing to the Mediterranean

10 Oct 1840 Portsmouth, The following are the present officers of the Howe : Sir Watkin 0. Pell, captain; J. V. Baker, commander; J. Anderson, Richard Dowse, and George Merrett, lieutenants; with three others lent from the flag-ship and ordinary at Sheerness ; Joshua Taylor, master ; Thomas Stanes, purser ; F. N. Blight, and William Chartres, assistant surgeons ; Charles L. Spence, second mister; William Clarke, gunner; George Fiddes, carpenter : John Skeens, boatswain. The marine officers are Thomas Park, captain ; R. B. Puddiccmbe, and Richard Johns, first lieutenants; Nicholas Moore, second lieutenant.

13 Oct 1840, the chain cable having run out on Friday morning last, after the anchor was dropped, was grappled and buoyed. On Saturday afternoon, divers and men employed on the wreck of the Royal George assisted in recovering the cable.

17 Oct 1840 Portsmouth, the Howe has received an addition of 130 from the Victory and was fitted with lightning conductors.

17 Oct 1840 Dr. M'Arthur appointed to the Howe.

17 Oct 1840 Mates J. J. Dornford, R. A. Buchanan, F. Freeling, H. Bainbridge, and C. Hemsted ; Midshipman P. Osborne, appointed to the Howe. Thames Barry, the boatswain reduced by sentence of a Court-martial, has been ordered to the Howe to serve out his term of three years as a petty officer.

31 Oct 1840, Carpenter Henry Smith, appointed to Howe ; Clerk J. B. Borlase, appointed additional to Howe.

31 Oct 1840, Orders were received this morning from the Admiralty to send on board the Britannia and Howe, for general service, 50 pensioned seamen, who are to receive their pensions to addition to the sea pay of any rating they may obtain.

31 Oct 1840, Spithead, unmoored this evening and proceeds to the Mediterranean to-morrow morning.

Nov 1840 Spithead, on the 1st Britannia and Howe departed for the Mediterranean, but the wind was too light and they returned. On the 3rd they succeeded in getting as far as Portland Bill, but a strong south-westerly set in and they returned to to Spithead, Gunnery practice was carried out at a mark on the 5th. Both ships will sail when the wind is more favourable.

7 Nov 1840 Portsmouth Lieutenant J. O. Travers has this week embarked for service in the Mediterranean in the room of Lieutenant Hockin, killed.

17 Jul 1841 departed Malta on a squadron cruise, with the Britannia, Howe, Vanguard, Hazard, and Cyclops, for Corfu, Athens, Piraeus, Candia, and the Levant.

23 Jul 1841 arrived off Corfu, and was towed into harbour by the Cyclops.

27 Aug 1841 Captain Sir Watkin Owen Pell at present commanding the Howe, 120 guns, stationed in the Mediterranean, has been appointed Captain Superintendent at Deptford dock-yard, vice Captain Superintendent W. H. Shirreff, to Chatham.

24 Sep 1841 Court Martial held on board at Malta for Mr. Henry Barry Beresford, Mate, of the Vanguard, for failing to obey the Captain's order : acquitted.

25 Sep 1841 departed Malta for Syracuse, where she arrived the following day.

3 Oct 1841 arrived Malta, from Syracuse, in two days, having watered.

22 Oct 1841 Malta, a court-martial was held on board to try a marine of the Indus, for striking a corporal in the exercise of his duty. The prisoner was convicted and condemned to be hanged, but has yet to be carried out, and may be commuted.

20 Nov 1841 Lieutenant T. Stephens, from the Inconstant, appointed to the Howe.

27 Nov 1841 Volunteer 1st Class G. H. C. Langdon Tregear, appointed to the Howe.

4 Jan 1842 it is reported at Malta that Marine Archibald George, of the Indus, now on board the Howe, and condemned to death for striking a superior officer, has had his sentence commuted to transportation in New South Wales.

10 Jan 1842 Valetta, Malta experienced severe weather conditions, with a thunder storm, along with large hailstones, and winds which heeled the ship over "greatly," causing the lower deck guns on the nearby Ganges to run themselves out.

12 Jan 1842 Valetta was reported to have experienced a severe storm that caught the Ganges, and caused her to heel over by a number of degrees.

12 May 1842 following reports from the consul at Tripoli it is understood that the Pacha is becoming a problem again ; the Howe, Thunderer and Savage have departed Malta for Tripoli to restore peace.

20 May 1842 departed Valetta with the squadron, including the Queen (flag V.-Adm. Owen) Howe (flag R.-Adm Mason), Vanguard, Calcutta, Thunderer, Cambridge, Impregnable, Devastation and Vesuvius, on a cruize.
