The name of the Icarus, of 485 tons, and 60 horses power, appears in the programme for 1854-5, but nothing was done in regard to the conversion of her frame until July 1856, when it was ordered to be converted by contract by Mr. Langton, and she was built in accordance with the decision of that date.

3 Apr 1854 date of order for building vessel - 1 of 5 of the Racer Class, which also included the Icarus, Cordelia, Gannet, and Pantaloon.

1860 North America and West Indies

2 Jul 1862 Sheerness. Commissioned for Service in the Mediterranean.

1 Jan to 24 May 1864 Mediterranean Station. Reports of Fevers onboard. Number of Cases of Disease and Injury.

1870 China. Reduced to 3 guns

2 Apr 1871, for census, Hong Kong.
