Mar 1841 it is reported that the Janus, first class steam-vessel has been ordered to be built at Pembroke.

17 Oct 1851 the remains of 2 merchant vessels, the Joven Emilia and the brigantine Violet, captured by pirates were found on the Riff coast, but the Janus was too small to carry out adequate punitive action - see p. 362 at at www.archive.org/details/royalnavyhistory06clow
