Notes:

May 1843, the private yacht Emily being sent from Singapore to Sarawak with mail for the Dido, the Jolly Bachelor, locally built by the natives at Sarawak, and under the Command of Lieut. Hunt was sent by the Dido to ensure that the Emily wasn't molested by pirates.

Circa 16 May 1843, on leaving the river 3 pirate boats were observed in the offing, but was unable to get near them, and having pulled in ashore and eaten, and sentries posted, most, if not all of the men went to sleep, when Lieut Hunt awoke to discover that they were about to be attacked by 2 pirate war-prahus, armed with cannon which were fired, so that within seconds the RN boat. Following the rude awakening the men soon got to work with their cannon opening up the bows of the pirate vessels with ball in order to use grape and canister which caused fearful execution, and followed by the RN personnel and marines with muskets, one of the prahus was soon in a sinking condition, the other being rescued by another unseen prahu, and escaped, although the slaves manning the damaged prahu later killed the surviving pirates and escaped ashore, only to fall into the hands of another tribe of pirates. The vessels turned out to be the same ones that had been observed by the Dido on 9th May, and had escaped.
