Notes:

March 1793 captured the French privateer Am�rique off Bolthead.

May 1793 captured the French privateer Franklin in the Channel.

May 1793 captured the French privateer Ambitieux in the Channel.

14 Jul 1793 departed with the Channel fleet from St. Helen's. On the 18th to the west of the Scilly Isles and subsequent manoeuvres.

31 Jul 1793 briefly sighted, but was unable to close the French fleet ; returned to Torbay on 10 Aug.

23 Aug 1793 the Channel Fleet departed to escort the Newfoundland trade, West Indian convoys in home waters.

27 Oct 1793, Commodore Pasley departed with a part of the Channel Fleet, the Bellerophon and Suffolk 74s, and Hebe, Latona, and Venus frigates, to look for five French frigates that had chased the Circe frigate into Falmouth, but returned to the Fleet 7 Nov., having found no trace of them.

18 Nov 1793 a French squadron sighted by the frigate Latona.

2 May - 1 Jun 1794 Departure of the Channel Fleet from St. Helen's, and the lead up to actions and manoeuvres with the French fleet. 5 and 19 May looked into Brest Roads to see if the French Fleet was in harbour. 29 May - 1 Jun., what was to be known as the Battle of the Glorious 1st June commences, resulting in the capture of six sail of the line and one sunk. 13 Jun, the fleet arrived back in home ports.

14 Feb 1795 the Channel fleet departed from Torbay for a brief cruise and to see various convoys safe out of the Channel.

14 Oct 1795 Melampus, and Latona, the latter under the command of Captain the Honourable Arthur Kaye Legge, pass between the island of Groix and the main land of France and exchange fire with shore batteries.

15 Oct 1795 Melampus, and Latona, and later the Orion, and Thalia, and later still the Pomone and Concorde, departed in chase of the two French frigates, the Tortue and N�r�ide, and the corvette Eveill�, 16. However, the closeness of the shore and prevailing weather conditions meant that the chase for the frigates was aborted. But the Eveill� was less fortunate, and was taken by the Pomone and the Thunderer, 74, which had also appeared on the scene.

29 Nov 1797 captured the French privateer Aigle on the Lisbon station.

3 Dec 1797 captured the French privateer Intrepide on the Lisbon station.

30 Dec 1798 departed Plymouth for Cork, for a refit.

30 Dec 1798 Portsmouth, arrived from Lisbon with convoy.

15 Jan 1799 at Spithead.

14 Feb 1799 Portsmouth, departed with the sloop Fly on a cruise.

29 Mar 1799 Latona, Espiegle, Hired Cutters Fox and Phoenix captured the Nelly.

29 Mar 1799 the Latona in company with HM Ships Juno, Astrea, Espiegle, Fox Hired Vessel No. 1, Griffin, Diligente, and Phoenix Cutters captured the Galliot Neptunus.

22 Apr 1799 Yarmouth, departed on a cruize to the Northward.

24 Apr 1799 Yarmouth, with the Squadron under sailing orders to relieve the fleet off the Texel.

12 Aug 1799 small craft and ship's boats of a light squadron capture a number of Dutch schuyts : the attack also results in the destruction of the Dutch schooner Vengeance, at the second attempt.

14 Aug 1799 at anchor off the buoy at the entrance between Schiermonikoog and Ameland.

13 Aug-Oct 1799 employed on expedition to Holland.

5 Apr 1800 captured the French privateer lugger Virginie, 14 guns and 53 men, of Dunkirk, commanded by Aubin Sevry, off Flamborough Head.

27 Jan 1801 the Amazon departed N. Yarmouth with the Latona.

15 Apr 1801 arrived this morning at N. Yarmouth from a cruise off Goree, a squadron from Adm. Dickson's North Sea Fleet, which appears to have changed somewhat since it departed : the Princess of Orange, Leyden, Assistance, Monmouth, Madras, Agincourt, Latona, Waarzaamheid, Shark, Diligence, Drake and Wright armed ship.

30 Apr 1801 arrived N. Yarmouth from Adm. Dickson's squadron.

11 May 1801 departed N. Yarmouth, yesterday afternoon, for the Baltic, with Lord St Helen's, Mr Shairpe, Mr. Bidwell, Count Woronzov, M. Novossilzow, and servants, as passengers. Wind fresh at W.

19 Jul 1801 arrived N. Yarmouth with the Baltic fleet under the command of Adm Graves ; for the make up of the much reduced fleet click on : Defiance, flag ship.

27 Jul 1801 the Marquis of Niza, a Portuguese minister, embarked at N. Yarmouth, for the Baltic, last night, and she departed later this morning.

8 Aug 1801 passed by Copenhagen with the Marquis de Riza onboard, Ambassador Extraordinary from the Court of Lisbon to that of Petersburgh. He was hoping to solicit the protection of the Monarch of Russia following the invasion by France of Portugal.

14 Sep 1801 arrived N. Yarmouth from St Petersburgh.

21 Sep 1801 passed through the Downs for Spithead.

22 Sep 1801 arrived Spithead the Latona from the North Sea.

20 Mar 1802 departed St Helen's on a cruise.

29 Mar 1802 arrived Spithead from Portland Roads.

2 Apr 1802 departed Spithead on a cruise against smugglers.

18 Apr 1802 arrived St Helen's this evening.

19 Apr 1802 arrived Spithead from Torbay.

2 May 1802 departed Spithead the Latona, 38, Captain Sotheron, for the Eastward.

6 May 1802 passed through the Downs for the Nore.

7 May 1802 arrived Sheerness, from Portsmouth, and has received orders to be fitted out for service in the Baltic.

10 May 1802 departed Sheerness for the River Thames to be paid off and recommissioned.

28 May 1802 departed Sheerness the Diligence with 80 of the Phoebe's crew, to be put on board the Latona, lying at Greenhithe.

4 Jun 1802 arrived Sheerness, from the Thames, with Prince William of Gloucester on board.

28 Sep 1802 arrived Sheerness with Lord St Helen's and his retinue from Russia, who departed for Chatham, en route for Town.

17 Nov-30 Dec 1802 prize money resulting from the expedition to Holland due for payment.

Circa 18 Aug 1804 Lieut Meik, late of the Bonetta, apptd to the Latona.

12 Nov 1804 arrived Spithead, the Latona, Capt Gosselin, from Deptford.

16 Nov 1804 departed Spithead, the Latona, to join the Channel Fleet.

May 1805 Plymouth Sound

22 Oct 1805 captured the Spanish privateer Amphion, ketch, 12 guns, 70 men.

1 Jan 1807 the frigates Arethusa, Anson, Fisgard, and Latona capture of the island of Curacoa.

8-10 Feb 1809 Asp, Sup�rieure, Latona, Horatio, and Driver, cruising to the southward of the Virgin islands, captured the French 40-gun frigate Junon, which was taken to Halifax, repaired, and commissioned under the same name in the British navy.

12-17 Apr 1809 a part of a British squadron, off the Saintes, West Indies, which chased a French squadron, and captured the French 74-gun d'Haupoult of 1871 tons, and, under the name of Abercromby, cruised for three or four years in the British service. 1 May 1835 a portion of the prize money resulting from this action due for payment : namely a dividend from the estate of the bankrupt agent Henry Abbott's : no doubt one of the many fraudsters who ripped off matelots in those days : officers and ratings being fair game.

14-17 Jun 1809 Latona, Haughty and Cherub chased two French arm�es en flute, Furieuse and F�licit� which separated, and not long afterwards captured F�licit�.

Yarmouth, 7 Nov 1811 notice is given to the Latona, and other vessels that Accounts of sales of 6 prizes, with the Accounts of expences incurred by the capture of 6 vessels have been deposited in the Registry of the Court of Admiralty.

Portsmouth 17 Nov 1811 departed for the Tagus.

Falmouth 29 Dec 1811 arrived last night with a part of her convoy that left Lisbon on 7 Dec., and departed early this morning to the eastward.

Portsmouth 2 Jan 1812 arrived with a convoy from Lisbon, having sick and wounded on board.

Portsmouth 31 Jan 1812 departed for Cowes Roads.

Plymouth 18 May 1812 departed for Lisbon.

Plymouth Dock 8 Jul 1812 arrived with a convoy of transports, with sick and wounded, and French prisoners, from Lisbon, and has passed by for Portsmouth.

Plymouth 4 Jan 1813 arrived from Santona, last from Portsmouth, having overshot this port, having on board a part of the battalion of Royal Marines from the North of Spain.
