Laid down as Elephant

31 Dec 1870, Flag Ship of the Channel Squadron, on completion of Christmas leave remains at Spithead, whilst the rest of the Squadron have departed for Portland.

16 Mar 1871 arrived at Spithead, from Portland.

21 Apr 1871 departed for Portland Roads, her crew having been given a week's leave.

6 Aug 1875 Commissioned at Portsmouth.

14 Mar 1886 Left Gibraltar for Portsmouth.
