22 Jun 1842 at Malta it is reported that 70 men from the crews of the Medea and Monarch who were put ashore at Xanthus to bring antique marble statues etc. to Malta have contracted malaria and are extremely unwell, John Lyne of the Medea having already fallen victim to the disease and was buried at Malta yesterday. The newspaper, the Malta Gazette states that for the sake of a few marble statues it is lamentable that so many brave men have been placed in jeopardy.
