31 Dec 1870, forming a part of the Channel Squadron, on completion of Christmas leave departed from Portsmouth, for Portland.

1 Jan 1871 arrived at Portland.

3 Feb 1871 departed from Portland to test her guns, but as a result of foggy weather returned to harbour before dark.

14 Mar 1871 arrived Spithead from Portland.

16 Mar 1871 enters Portsmouth harbour.

16 Apr 1878 Commissioned at Chatham.

1879 Mediterranean.

6 Oct 1879 The Times reports the death, presumably from his parents : At Lanarca, Ernest Travers, Midshipman, H.M.S. Monarch, eldest son of Augusta and Ines Travers, aged 15 years.

24 Oct 1879, arrived at Malta with the Alexandra, Temeraire and Achilles, and on 5 Nov were expected to sail for Turkish waters.

1882 Present at the bombardment of Alexandria.

1885 Broke down and towed back to Malta.

15 Sep 1885 Commissioned at Chatham.

Apr 1886 Channel Squadron.

1890 Channel Squadron.

1890 - 1897 Major refit and modernisation.

1897 Guard Ship Simon's Bay's.

1900 Photographed off Simon's Town in the early part of the year.

1904 Renamed Simoom and used as a Depot Ship.
