Admiralty Court, Malta

Notes:

Circa 12 Sep 1803 it is reported that when the Fairy departs Portsmouth for Malta with her convoy, she also takes out an appointed court of the Admiralty for Malta, of which, Dr Sewell, of the Doctors Commons, is the judge ; this is noted by the Hampshire Telegraph as hoping to prove of particular advantage and convenience for all captures and detentions made by the Navy in the Mediterranean ; although I seem to remember reading that Admiral Nelson was a little less than impressed when he saw the results of this court and how much had been charged in fees, nullifying, in many instances, any prize money that should have been due to the Fleet !
