Jan 1846 Niger, 8, Mr. Lang, Senior, five-eighths built, at Woolwich.

20 Dec 1848 Woolwich.

6 Dec 1850 the Brazilian slave schooner Igualdade, was detained in Lat. 6� 14' N. Long. 3� 57' E., by the ship's pinnace after a number of days in the boat and a long chase, towards the end of which it was necessary to bring the Igualdade to by using the boat's gun to damage the sails and rigging. The vessel was commanded by Joaquim Joze Correio which had 56 Negro slaves on board when detained, and was sent for adjudication to the Vice-Admiralty Court at Sierra Leone, and on 18 Jan 1851 sentenced to be condemned.

Mid 1950 boarded the barque Elizabeth, en route with passengers for Australia.

30 Jun 1851 at anchor off Badagry, and have been joined by the Sampson. Mr. Duffus, Assistant Surgeon, is reported to have been drowned in the surf whilst returning to the ship and Commander Heath had a near escape, so with the state of the surf at present there is little or no communication with shore, except by signal.

25 Nov 1851 at Lagos, ineffective operations against the usurping King Kosoko :

27 Nov 1851 departed Lagos to take despatches to the Commodore of the station and proceeded to Ascension, and thence to Sierra Leone, but still not found.

13 Apr 1854 Niger and Retribution detained 12 Russian vessels.
