Originally built, with others of her class, for service on the Australia station.

1890 Building at Portsmouth. Officers borne in "Asia".

11 Oct 1900 commissioned at Portsmouth, Capt. The Hon W. G. Stopford, and it is planned that she will relieve the Pearl on the N.A. & W. Indies station.

25 Oct 1900 left Portsmouth for her commissioning trial, during which some defects surfaced which will not take long to put right.

2 Nov 1900 was reported to be due to depart Funchal for Bermuda.

14 Nov 1900 is reported to have arrived Bermuda.

12 Apr 1901 is reported to have arrived Colon.

12 Jun 1901 is reported to have arrived Bermuda.

22 Jul 1901 is reported to have departed Bermuda for Halifax.

29 Aug 1901, at Halifax (N.S.), under orders to leave Friday for Murray Bay, in the St. Lawrence, and from there to Quebec.

1 Sep 1901 departed Halifax for Quebec.

11 May 1902 following a volcanic erruption the Pallas leaves Kingston, Jamaica, with relief supplies for St. Vincent.

7 Jun 1902 at Barbados, where a salute was fired to celebrate the cessation of hostilities in South Africa.

11 Dec 1902, in company with other RN vessels in Venezuelan waters following apparent problems involving a President Castro.

16 Dec 1902 the problems with Venezuela continue, and Captain Robertson, the current commanding officer of the Pallas, is familiar with the problem, which has been smouldering for some months.

24 Feb 1903 arrived at Trinidad on Friday.

7 Mar 1903 departed Guaira on Thursday.

24 Mar 1903 it is reported from New York to have seized the former Venezuelan warship Restaurador as a pirate, however the captain of the Pallas denies the seizure.

23 Mar 1903 it is reported from St. Thomas that following rioting men from the Rocket and Pallas have been landed at Port of Spain, Trinidad, to quell the riots.

Wed., 16 Sep 1903, is reported to be departing Barbados for Tobago.

17 Sep 1903 is supposed to arrived at Tobago.

22 Sep 1903 departs Tobago.

23 Sep 1903 is due to arrive at Trinidad.

31 Dec 1903 Portsmouth, it is reported that a relief crew will be sent to Bermuda to relieve the current crew, and will be recommissioned for further service on the station.
