29 May 1840 is ordered to he laid down in HM dockyard Portsmouth

27 Feb 1841 Portsmouth, will be laid down as soon as the slip, now under repair, is ready. The timbers for her are already deposited near the slip.

1842 Laid down as Prince Albert, but renamed Princess Royal (1853) per Hampshire Telegraph of 4 Apr 1842, however, it is noted that a vessel to be known as the Royal Albert is to be laid down at Woolwich.
