Circa 31 Mar 1804 as appeared in the Hampshire Telegraph the following vessel was to be hired into the Service to be employed in the North Sea and Channel, to protect convoys, the hired armed ship Samuel, Commander Ponsonby, but it looks like an error to me, Ponsonby was also apptd to the Thames, and one wonders if the Samuel was confused with the Samuel Braddick, hired at about the same time, and subsequently renamed Braddick. And whilst the other vessels hired at this date tie in nicely with Steel's Navy List, the Samuel is missing, although I appreciate that Steel's List is rarely perfect.
