Whitehall, August 5, 1797. Whereas it has been humbly represented to tbe King, that an anonymous threatening Letter, of which the following is a Copy, was received by Mr. Snipe, Surgeon of HM Ship Sandwich, in consequence of the evidence he gave on the Trial of Richard Parker, viz.-
" Sir,
" We are sure if you have any conscience, it must fly in your face and give you no rest for what you have done against Mr. Parker, you swore flatley against him and took his Life you and that infernal villain Barry who was bribed to swear against him, and your vile diabolical Captain Moss the villainous Prosecutor, do you suppose you will escape, no, your destruction is nigher than you imagine Mr. Parker has friends and more of them than you are aware of who will not suffer you to escape ; and in such an Hour as you think not it will come upon you even sudden destruction thank God all your diabolical Malice is now terminated with respect unto him, he is we hope where such infernal villains as you can never enter for hell is made for such base abominable miscreants and such as your vile Captain and Barry and yourself are vessels of wrath fitted to everlasting destruction o how will it gall your souls thro' all Eternity to See Blessed Parker, full of Joy and happiness and Glory in the blissful presence of God and Christ and Holly Angels, when you will be company to devil and damned Souls, and full of wrath, Misery and Woe for ever and ever. We are &c. &c. &c."
His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to Justice tbe Persons concerned in writing and sending the Letter above-mentioned, is hereby pleased to promise His most gracious Pardon to any of them, (except the Person who actually wrote the said Letter) who shall discover his or her Accomplice or Accomplices therein, so that he, she or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof.
