31 Jul-22 Aug 1799 Invincible departed as a part of an expedition to the coast of Surinam, resulting in the taking of that Dutch colony, along with the capture of the French corvette Hussar, and the Dutch corvette, Camphaan, which were added to the British navy ; the latter by her own name, and the former by the name of the colony.

Vice-Admiral Lord Hugh Seymour wrote in a despatch received at the Admiralty on 12 Oct 1799: "Am not able at present to forward an account of the vessels captured at Surinam, two of which I have been obliged to take into HM service until their lordships' pleasure can be known ; but I shall take the first opportunity of sending that account for their Lordships' information. The French corvette L'Hussar, a very fine vessel, only seven months old, mounts 20 nine-pounders, now serving as the Surinam sloop, and Lt. Cole, of the Prince of Wales, appointed to command her.

24 Jul 1801 departed Martinique with dispatches for the Princess Charlotte packet, due at St Kitt's shortly, bound for England.

31 Jul 1801 the Diana, and Surinam, are reported by the Clio, McFie, from Granada to the Clyde, to have departed St Thomas's with a convoy of some 200 vessels for England, although, judging by subsequent reports it would appear that the Surinam only accompanied the convoy until it reached the Atlantic.

21 Oct 1801 the Falmouth packet Lord Charles Spencer arrived Barbadoes, and after departing Barbadoes, regret no dates given, arrived at Martinique where he found the Leviathan, Osprey and Surinam, and after delivering mail at the several Leeward Isles, arrived at Tortola on 14 Nov., where he found the Southampton, which departed that place on the 16th, with the packet in company.
