29 Nov 1860, depart Plymouth Sound, under tow of the frigate Gorgon, for the Cape of Good Hope, for use as a mooring lighter. The vessel would is jury rigged in the event of becoming separated from the Gorgon, which happens quite frequently, the more so since she appears to sail better than the Gorgon in some conditions, not surprising since her hull form was presumably quite good having been a packet.

7 Mar 1861 arrives at the Cape Of Good Hope, to become a mooring vessel.
