3 Jun 1799 a piece of plate of the value of 150 guineas was sent to Portsmouth, by Messrs. Haynes and Kentish, to Thomas Western, Esq. captain of HM ship Tamar, presented to Captain Western by the merchants of Barbadoes in acknowledgment of his great activity and unremitted attention to the protection of the trade of the island when he was upon that station.

25-26 Aug 1799 chased and captured the French 28-gun frigate R�publicaine.

Aug 1799 Tamar, off Surinam, 26th Aug., a little after day-light, about 6 leagues to westward of Orange, discovered a strange sail bearing W. N. W. and gave chase. About half past five P. M. got alongside and after about ten minutes close action she struck, and proves to be the national corvette Republicaine, Citoyen Le Bozee, Capitaine de Frigate, of 32 guns, 24 long nines, and 8 thirty-two pound carronades, and 220 men, from Cayenne, on a cruise, and had taken two Americans. 2 seamen were wounded, and the sails and rigging a good deal damaged ; the enemy is almost a wreck, and she was taken in tow to this place ; her loss I understand to be nine killed and twelve wounded.

1 Jun 1800 captured after a chase of 8 hours the French privateer Gen. Messena, 16 guns and 150 men, on the Leeward Island station.

11 Nov 1800 at Martinique the Tamar, Capt Western, when the packet Lady Hobart arrived.

30 Dec 1800 the Tamar was at the Barbadoes when the packet Leicester arrived from Falmouth with the mails, and was informed that the Grantham packet had been wrecked on the Medhams shoal, crew and mails saved.

15 Jan 1801 arrived Montserrat with troops for the Island.

Circa 11 Feb 1801 the Lady Arabella packet, Capt Portens, departed Barbadoes for Martinique where the Venus, Gait�, Arab and Calcutta were lying, she then proceeded to Dominica, where she found the Tamar and reportedly the Gait� again. The latter then accompanied her to Antigua, and in the process recaptured a schooner and sloop which had been taken by a French privateer, which had also captured an English letter of marque. The Leviathan was at Antigua, which sailed shortly after her arrival. She then departed for St. Kitt's where she found the Hornet, with the Southampton and Arab, the latter convoying the packet to Tortola, and sailed for England on 6 Mar, where she arrived on 3 Apr.

3 Aug 1802 arrived Plymouth Sound, the Tamar, 38, from the West Indies.

8 Aug 1802 arrived in the Downs, last from Plymouth, and departed for the River to be paid off.

13 Aug 1802 a Court Martial was held at Chatham, on board the Tamar, on the Boatswain and his Mate, belonging to the Driver, of 18 guns. The former was acquitted, and the latter sentenced to receive 200 lashes.
