19 Nov 1798, off Minorca, with the Leviathan, Centaur, Calcutta, Argo, Cormorant, Aurora, Peterell, and cutter Constitution, Lt. Whiston, in support of the Army during the capture of Minorca. See also the Naval Chronicle pp. 77-80 Vol. 1, 1799.

18 Jun 1799 Europa, Ulysses, and Calcutta, arrived at Lisbon from the Mediterranean, and the Europa and Ulysses were appointed to sail with the convoy of merchant ships, about twenty sail, for England, on the 30th June.

22 Mar 1800 Portsmouth, departed with the Calcutta, and Dover, with the guards, for Cork.

1 - 2 May 1800 prize money resulting from the operations at the Islands of Martinique, St. Lucia, and Guadaloupe due for payment.

8 Mar to 2 Sep 1801 services off the coast of Egypt.

6 Aug 1801 departed the coast of Egypt for France in company with the Dolphin, and Inflexible, with the second division of General Belliard's French troops, on being embarked from Cairo, and in view of the baggage involved assume that this must have included a convoy of transports.

1 Jan 1802 departed Gibraltar the Ulysses, and Diadem, with the troopship Ann, with troops from Egypt, the latter arriving alone at Spithead 26 Jan 1802.

18 Mar 1802 arrived Spithead, from Cork.

6 Apr 1802 departed Spithead the Ulysses, Capt Sayer ; Pallas, Capt Edmunds ; Thisbe, Capt Morrison, to the Eastwards, to be paid off.

9 Apr 1802 arrived at Sheerness and then departed with a light breeze for Chatham.

1 Sep 1802 arrived Sheerness.

5 Sep 1802 arrived in the Downs from Sheerness.

6 Sep 1802 departed the Downs for Spithead.

8 Sep 1802 arrived Spithead the Phoebe frigate, Captain Shepard ; Ulysses, 44, Captain Columbine ; and the Advice tender, from the Downs.

11 Sep 1802 the Ulysses, and her tender, are to take out the Commissioners to survey the island of Trinidad. Sir Samuel Hood is expected here on Monday to hoist his broad pendant.

2 Oct 1802 remain at Spithead and in harbour Ulysses, 44, Captain Columbine.

22 Oct 1802 signals have been hoisted on board the Ulysses, Advice and Express tenders, at Portsmouth for sailing for Trinidad, with the Commissioners.

23 Oct 1802 departed Spithead this evening the Ulysses frigate, Advice and Express tenders, for the West Indies, with the for Commissioners for Trinidad onboard. [However, in view of several subsequent announcements regarding the departure of these vessels, I suspect that the strong SW-SSE winds then blowing up the English Channel, which were inclined to be contrary, meant that, although not announced, these vessels returned to Spithead, hoping for better conditions.]

29 Oct 1802 departed Spithead the Ulysses, 44, Captain Columbine, and the Advice and Express tenders, for Trinidad.

30 Oct 1802 arrived Torbay yesterday, and due to the contrary winds remains.

31 Oct 1802 during the night the wind went round from the SW to the East and strengthened to a gale, requiring the Ulysses, Advice and Express to cut away their anchors and continue their passage to the West Indies.

28 Jan 1803 letters received from the Blenheim, state that the ship arrived at Martinico after a pleasant passage of one month, and the Ulysses departed for Trinidad in order that Commodore Hood could carry out his orders. No mention made of the Advice and Express, so can only assume that they've gone off with the Ulysses.

25 Feb 1803 the Falmouth packet Princess Elizabeth which arrived Falmouth in 39 days from Barbadoes reports that the following vessels remained at Barbadoes, the Blenheim, Ulysses, and Heureux, when she departed for England, with the Excellent and Castor arriving Barbadoes as she departed.

Circa 14 Jul 1803 per a letter received from the Centaur it is reported that the Cyane joined the Centaur at Barbadoes with 2 French transports she'd detained, and 375 troops, and ordnance stores for Martinico. The Centaur also reports the deaths of Lt Mowatt, of the Ulysses ; Mids Willer and Child, and Mr Archdeacon, purser of the Emerald ; and Mid Cole of the Blenheim. Lt Woolcombe of the Argo has been apptd to the Centaur ; Lt K Nowseley of the Ulysses to the Argo ; Mid Edwards of the Centaur to the Ulysses ; Mr Clewlow, purser of the Ulysses apptd to the Emerald ; Mr Bead, purser of the Cyane, to the Ulysses ; Mr Scott, clerk of the Ulysses, to be purser of the Cyane ; Mid Compton of the Centaur, promoted Lieut., and apptd to the Blenheim ; Mid Finchley of the Argo promoted Lieut, and apptd to the Cyane.

Circa 18 Jun 1803 news received in England regarding the death of Lt Gosselin, and Mr Wallis, at Trinidad. Midshipman Mowatt relieved Lt Gosselin.

12 Dec 1803 the following recent deaths of Naval officers in the West Indies have been reported at Barbadoes :
Lieut Evans of the Ulysses, at Trinidad ; Lieut Boyd of the Marines, of the Blenheim, off Martinique ; Mr Adams, purser, and Mr Brown, midshipman, of the Hippomenes ; and Mr Adams, the Commissioner's first clerk ; Mr Blackmore, and Mr Phillips, midshipmen of the Centaur ; At Prince Rupert's Bay, Lieut Holmes, on half pay of the Navy ; At Antigua, Lieut Marshall, of the Gauchapin. 30 Apr 1804 captured the French privateer Petite Decide on the Leeward Island station.

15 May 1804 captured the French privateer Trois Freres.

24 Jun 1804 Capt E H Columbine, Ulysses, off Tortola, writing to the merchants in Trinidad, thanking them for the sword that they wish to present to him as a thank you for looking after their interests.

7 Aug 1804 on Tuesday morning the Romney, Capt Brown, sailed past Portsmouth for the Downs with 200 ships from the Leeward Isles, the remainder having departed for the Northern ports under convoy of the Ulysses.

10 Aug 1804 arrived Spithead from Bristol and Liverpool having dropped off merchant shipping from the Leeward Isles at those ports.

Circa 18 Aug 1804 Capt Younghusband of the Osprey, made a post Captain, into the Blenheim, vice Graves, who came home in the Ulysses.

27 Aug 1804 departed Spithead for Portsmouth harbour.

11 Oct 1804 at a Court Martial on Thursday a seaman, J Jones, from the Ulysses was found guilty of deserting from the Navy, and claiming a bounty when he joined the Royal Marines ; he was sentenced to receive 50 lashes and mulcted of any pay he may have owed.

30 Jan-24 Feb 1809 a part of a expedition under R.-adm Sir A Cochrane which arrived off Martinique with a view to taking the Island.

5 Dec 1814 departed Plymouth with a convoy for Rio Janeiro, but returned, the wind having gone round to the south.

10 Dec 1814 remains at Plymouth with her convoy to Spain, Portugal and the Med. &c., wind-bound.

21 Dec 1814 departed Plymouth with a convoy for Africa.

24 Dec 1814 departed Plymouth several vessels for Falmouth, to join the convoy bound to Africa under the Ulysses.

28 Mar 1815 remains at Sierra Leone.

24 Aug 1815 departed Spithead to the River to be paid off ?

Since 1 Jan 1815, in a paper presented to Parliament dated 4 Feb 1818 the Ulysses, Commodore Brown, has detained the Diligente, Vincento Alfonso, master, with 22 slaves, was taken to Sierra Leone and condemned, subject to an appeal pending in the High Court of Appeals for Prizes.
