20 Mar 1796 the Bec du Raz bearing; north by east distant four miles, a squadron composed of frigates Anson, Pomone, Captain Sir John Borlase Warren (in command), Artois, and Galatea, engaged a French squadron with a convoy, during which the Etoile store-ship struck her colours, and 4 vessels were taken from the convoy and left in the care of the lugger Valiant.

1 Jan 1799 CO : Lt R Tomlinson ; stationed at Plymouth (N.C.).

31 May 1799 Plymouth, arrived from a cruise with the Havick.

25 Sep 1799 Plymouth, arrived with the Diamond, and Beaulieu, from off Brest.

7 Dec 1799 Plymouth, arrived with the Speedwell schooner, and the French brig privateer Speculative, 14 guns and 63 men ; and the French lugger privateer, Esperance, 10 guns and 24 men, captured after a long chace in the Channel.

29 Dec 1799 Plymouth, departed on a cruise.

5 Dec 1799 Valiant and Speedwell captured the French privateer Heureuse Esp�rance in the Channel.

9 Dec 1799 Valiant, Lieutenant Arthur Maxwell, and Speedwell captured the French privateer Heureux Speculateur in the Channel. 27 Jun 1800 proceeds arising from the capture of the Heureux Speculateur and the Heureux Esperance were paid on board at Plymouth.

11 Jun 1800 Plymouth, arrived from a cruise, the Beaulieu, 44, and Valiant, and Lady Duncan, luggers.

24 Dec 1800 departed Plymouth on a cruise.

10 Mar 1801 departed Plymouth Sound the on a cruise.

18 Apr 1801 arrived Plymouth Sound the brig Adventure, of Jersey, John Le Grellier, master, in ballast, taken on the 16th, off the Lizard, by a French privateer, of 14 guns, and recaptured by the Valiant, which was left in chase.

28 Apr 1801 arrived Plymouth Sound with the Valiant lugger.

7 Jun 1801 departed Plymouth Sound the Valiant lugger, Lt Maxwell, with the Highland Chief, East Indiaman, and a convoy, for the River Thames.

23 Jul 1801 arrived Plymouth this afternoon the Valiant lugger, from a cruise in the Channel, with a small open boat, called the Ox, of Lyme, having on board 36 bags of salt, detained by the former on the French coast on suspicion of her having been stolen at Guernsey, and intended to be conveyed to France, having only 2 boys on board, with not an article of provisions for them to subsist on.
