[I am advised that "Before the VALIANT's shell was half riveted together" (vide Admiral Ballard), Westwood & Baillie went into liquidation and Thames Shipbuilding took over their works and the construction of VALIANT in 1861. This, together with the decision to arm her with MLRs, was responsible for her completion being delayed by about four years.) Launched : 14 Oct 1863 ; Disposal date or year : 1956
