25 Feb 1900 The main armament of the new battleship Venerable, at Chatham, will comprise four 12 in. breechloading guns of the new wire-wound type mounted in pairs on turntables in circular barbettes, one forward and one aft. She will also carry twelve 6 in. quick firing guns of a new type, and sixteen 12-pounder 12 cwt. guns, two 12 pounder 8 cwt. guns, six 3-pounder Hotchkiss, and eight .45 Maxim guns.
