NB Most certainly involves more than one vessel with the name Vigilant.

1 Jan 1799 Commander = R Dozell ; 10 men ; station : Kent, Sussex and Essex.

Circa 31 Dec 1814 under the command of Thomas Cole, and responsible to the English Board.

Circa 1 Sep 1816 under the command of M Gunthorpe, based on the Portsmouth Station, and responsible to the English Board.

Dartmouth 31 Aug 1817 Has detained, off the Berry Head, a large smuggling lugger, with contraband spirits &c. and brought her into Dartmouth.

Date not known driven, and apparently wrecked, upon a bed of shingles in Douglas bay, Isle of Man, and yet got off and brought in safety to Plymouth, is another remarkable instance.

5 Dec 1819 wrecked near Torbay, Lieut. Hy. Nazer.

27 Sep 1824 Mr. R. Gowlland apptd. to the Vigilant, based at Margate. Jul 1830 Revenue Vessel - England

17 Jan 1831 arrived Chatham with the smuggling boat Ann, of Ramsgate, with a crew of 3 : her cargo of foreign spirits has already been landed at Rochester. It is reported that within the last 10 months she has captured 7 smuggling vessls carrying goods to the value of �6,000.

30 Jan 1832 has landed spirits at Rochester from a smuggling vessel.

3 Feb 1932 arrived Chatham with a galley and crew of 5, belonging to Margate, with illicit spirits onboard.

5 Feb 1832 arrived Chatham with a smack and 3 men, with 85 half anchors of spirits on board, to be delivered to the customs tomorrow.

4 Apr 1932 arrived Rochester with a smuggling vessel with 104 half ankers of illicit spirits onboard.

Nov 1841 Mr. R. Gowlland still in command of the Vigilant, based at Margate.

1 Aug 1842 based at Margate, R. Gowlland, apptd. 27 Sep 1824.

20 Dec 1848 Revenue Vessel.

11 Feb 1854 arrived Woolwich from Sheerness.
