The basic rates of pay in all branches depend on the period for which a man is committed to serve. Those on engagements for periods of nine years or more will receive the " Standard rate of pay " those serving for less than nine years will receive the lower " seven year rate of pay." In deciding which scale a man is to receive account is taken of their previous service rendered. Pay also varies according to the qualifications held the classification being denoted alphabetically in the following tables:
