The Cruise of The Flying Squadron

    1869 - 1870

    Montevideo

September 6th
"Arrived in Montevideo Roads and found here the Scylla waiting for us and also the corvettes Pylades and Racoon. We lay about four miles from the town as it blew a great deal the first night here."

"I dont think much of this place, very dirty and everything very expensive except sheep which are very numerous. Buenos Ayres was too far up the river for one to go. I noticed one thing about this place all the girls are very pretty."
