Loss of the American Ship Lightfoot

Captain Bonnyman of the Pantaloon, reports the loss, on July 1st, near Saugor Roads, of the American ship Lightfoot, Captain Summer Pearce, from London to Calcutta. The Pantaloon, on seeing the signal of distress, bore up to her assistance, and succeeded in saving the whole of the crew, to the number of fifty, but no part of the cargo could be saved. The Lightfoot was a fine vessel of 2000 tons, on her second voyage. She had on board 900 tons of railway iron, besides a large quantity of miscellaneous cargo. The vessel had been dismasted on the passage out, and struck in Thornhill's Channel when running in. The crew, with their effects, were transferred to the American ship Morning Light, inward bound, which vessel had kindly remained by both vessels during the night.- Straits Times, July 24th.
