Intelligence reached town yesterday day of the wreck of the American clipper ship Whistler. Captain Brown, bound from this port to Hongkong, at King's island, on the 28th ultimo, with the loss of two lives. The Maypo, brig lately plying between Melbourne and Newcastle, was also wrecked on the island about the same time, with the loss of the captain and three of the hands. Captain Brown arrived at the Heads in an open boat soon after twelve o'clock yesterday, but had not reached the Bay when our despatch left. The run was made in twenty-four hours in one of the Whistler's boats containing the captain and seven of his crew. The captain's wife and family, twenty-four of the crew of the Whistler, and the survivors of the Maypo, are left on the island awaiting succour. Both vessels are total wrecks, It is presumed that Her Majesty's Ship Electra, or a steamer, will have been despatched to the site of the survivors before this is in the hands of our readers. The American consul, Mr. Tarleton, has had an interview with the Governor on the subject, and has been assured that immediate assistance shall be rendered.
