The Hugh Walker Emigrant Ship - Her Provisions !!

It will be remembered that very severe complaints reached this country regarding the sufferings of the passengers by the emigrant ship Hugh Walker from Glasgow to Sydney, and which reached her destination in October, 1853, after a passage extending to 145 days. These complaints were to the effect, that the voyage was a miserable one - that the rations generally were of the worst description - and that the ship was ill-regulated and very uncomfortable.

We are aware that some of these statements have been contradicted : but, from documents now before us, we have reason to believe that the complaints made on this subject by Mr. David Russell, printer, late of this city, and by many other passengers were substantially correct. We revert to this subject, as we have recently learned that Messrs. Galbreath and Co., of this city, the agents for the ship, have very properly brought an action against the store merchant who supplied the provisions, or the greeter part of them, to the ship, upon which action a decision has just been given by Sir Archibald Alison, Bart., damages being given in the amount of 138, with interest, and finding the defendant also liable in all expenses of the action.- Glasgow Herald, 16th May.
