The Bright Planet - Problems Rounding the Horn
|
Private letters have been received in town, stating that the Bright Planet, Johnson, from Sydney April 9th, put into Valparaiso in the beginning of July last, having encountered nothing but a succession of gales since leaving; in one of which, off Cape Horn, she was thrown on her beam ends, and it was found necessary to cut away the mizen mast and start the water butts to right her. Some of the passengers had left her, and proceeded to England by another vessel; she had also lost two of her hands.
